How many of you would use those clip on ponytails if you had short hair and didnt want the pain of getting extensions?

All of you have lovely extensions, and believe me,I have considered them...but where I live, not many people have them and I dont really have the money from what I've read they can be quite expensive.

My mom wears the ponytail clip ons all the time, but says people at her job rib her about it.

I see them everywhere now, even CVS,so they cant be that unpopular.I want to wear one till my hair grows out some.

Not all extensions are expensive. AMM´s Elite ThermoFiber is 20$ for a pack of hair with 3.5-4 ounce.
You can get it at Shrinkies.com

Yeah, I agree, extensions can be pretty cheap!

What I would suggest though if you don't want to go through with extensions, is to try some of the clips, even clip in hair extensions, and 3/4 falls.

They can all be pretty cheap, and work on a day-to-day basis or just when you are going out or doing something special.

I definetly agree NakedEye. I wear clip-ins every day. I've been only wearing one double weft lately. I usually wear two double wefts but this is even easier.
Clip on ponytails are nice but once you figure out your method for extensions you'll probably stick to that.

I've used the clip in ponytails & would if I didn't have extensions or was in between installs.  The one I had was from Sally's & not human hair so it wasn't the best quality but enough for once in a while.

Go for it!  There are so many pieces to choose from...have fun with them!

If you decide you want something more permanent there are a lot of options out there to keep it pretty inexpensive too.

I honestly could never do the clip in thing, I would be to lazy to put it in every day! I have to admit it sounds neat to switch it up and have the option, but the other girls are right, extensions can be very inexpensive!
It's actually really easy to do it yourself!

hey julesyjul! before i got into wearing 'real' extensions (that sounds silly...'real fake hair'!) i wore the clip ins to help disguise a very crappy hair cut.......there are a ton of things online, but its fun to go to your local beauty supply/wig stores and try on phony ponys...the clip on ponys are totally nondamaging to your hair and i know you are trying to get your hair healthy as well as long :)   they are very fun!

wow! thanks for all the quick responses!

I was thinking about getting the clip on extensions.do they stay in good though or do you have to worry about them falling out if the wind blows hard?
I know the hair and stuff for the real ones can be cheap, but it's the putting them in and the maintanice I heard cost alot. I would have no clue how to put them in...but I'm sure I could figure out the clip on ones.

Where can you get these clip on ones?

I think it's all about practice, that's why it took me so long to wear them. You have to know how to put them in, and when you do it right, with the right clips, you pretty much forget about them all day!

I would suggest making your own, because in my opinion, it's way cheaper, and easier to get what you really want. Plus, if you know how to thread a needle, it's super easy.

So you can look anywhere for hair you want that's on a weft, and just buy clips, and sew them together.

What I would suggest as far as hair goes, if you want some cheap stuff, for synthetic I really love Outre balik because they have so many different textures and they are so fun and soft, so you can buy ones with a curl, and the curl never seems to fall out. For cheap human hair (which I am just testing some now, but so far I love it) is Unique Wiiv.

If you want some that will be more expensive, but will probably last you longer, I would say go with bohyme hair. Sherrie sells in on her page, but it might be hard to do the clip-ins with hand tied wefts, I have some here that I am going to make into clip-ins, so I will let you know how it goes when I actually get around to it if you want to know!

I made clip ins with the bohyme hair from Sherrie's site. As NakedEye said, it is super easy and you can custom fit them. I use the machine weft.

NakedEye, please let us know how it goes with the handtied wefts

Personally, I hated having clip ins.
I had plenty for a full head and smaller parts for the sides etc very well thought out. However, it was annoying that I couldn't cut them because they would never been in exactly the same place twice. And yes, the falling out was annoying! At least they were easy to straighten.....but sometimes I would tug at them by mistake or get them caught around my fingers without noticing since they were very long. I wouldn't recommend clip ins that you wear down. A hairpiece like a pony tail, however, I think is a much better idea and a lot less effort and trouble! Believe me, with clip ins your mind is never at rest...

LOL about your mind never being at rest with clip ons.

I wore my hair in a ponytail piece today while I was out. I  like the fact at how low maintance it is.Just throw it in a ponytail and go.
Maybe if I try the clip ons I will mostly use them at home just for fun. Then when my hair gets long I can just use them for extra body.

oooh, I love the clip on ponies!  So low maintenance!  I wore them for about one year (alternating w/ 3/4 cap falls) when my hair was so short that I had to use a ton of bobbie pins to hold it back.

My fave are from www.beautytrends.com --they send free hair color samples in the mail.  3 at a time but you can reorder. The long 'easy clips' are a nice light weight--some of the long ponies I bought at the mall were so heavy & loaded w/ hair that they pulled my hair out.

Anyway, since you already have one it sounds like you have a resource.

For me, clip in hair ext are easy and secure (I currently wear 6 rows, 20 inch).  Mine never slip if I use the good type of clips.  The only way I could afford ext is to use clip ins (b/c I do NOT have the patience for DIY :o)) plus no damage!
ok, now I am in the mood to buy a pony...
