Hi guys! Ok heres my problem. I have very dark brown hair, almost black and it is way to dark for my natural complexion which is very light, and I also have light blue eyes. It makes me look washed out and pasty. It`s like I was born with the wrong hair colour! Anyway I have been highlighting my hair now for nearly a year, although it has been frying my hair I like the lighter colour. To combat the damage I just get it trimmed and deep condition it weekly. Anyway the thing is I am ready to take the next step and colour my whole hair all over. I`m just doing a bit of research before I decide and go to my hairdresser. So what sort of method is used? When I get it redone every 4-6 weeks I was wondering if they just redo the roots or the whole hair because I don`t think my hair could take the pressure of being redyed over and over, on the roots would be fine! Well any suggestions or horror stories would be greatly appreciated! Thanx

Hi, If you are going more than 2 shades lighter than your natural color, which is almost black, the only way for you to get very light blonde is through a 2 step bleach/color process. A bleach is added to lift the dark color and then a color is added back over the bleach to give the blonde color that you desire. Some people, like Pamela Anderson Lee just stick with the bleach and don`t add the tones. Bottom line, this is not an easy process nor is it gentle on most hair, if any. Can it be done at home? Yes. Would I recommend it. Based on about 1,000 emails in my "Hair Color Disaster Files" definitely not.
Can you just touch the roots up? Possibly. It all depends on whether you do just bleach or if you do bleach and color. A good colorist could help you figure out your best options and I would definitely recommend finding a good one and working with them.
