i wear my hair in a half ponytail a lot with the scalp forming a line across the back of my head....my sister said it was kinda ugly...i dont really think so but what do you think? is there anything wrong with scalp showing?

Ugly is a strong word. But yes, I find that kind of style with the top half tied and the part being in betweeen to be not my cup of tea - not that it`s a big deal. On the other hand, classic parts in the middle (and neatly zigzagged parts in the middle) are quite nice. As for the general idea of putting up half the hair, I`d say that I have nothing to criticize for a part of the hair pulled back in a ponytail, but the half-half look is best done if the scalp doesn`t show. Also, when you have hair chin-length or shorter, I think it`s wierd to put it up, except in a tight low pontail if it doesn` have any shaggy stuff that can`t enter the pojnytail. Bobs are best left down.
I don`t think it looks nice when your scalp is showing. If if just because your hair is parted on the side or zig zag, down the middle ect. that`s fine, but the style you are talking about sounds a little weird. I guess it just depends on the way you have it with you scalp showing.
mmm, how else WOULD the pigtails go? :) There`s nothing wrong with scalp lines (can we say "part" anyone?) But if you`re looking to mix things up, try doing the ZigZag line like someone else suggested... Hair is all about making it fun! (and tell your sister to stick it in her ear, ugly is a word reserved for stupid people that cut you off on the freeway and your boyfriend`s ex-girlfriends :))
today i was in the grocery store and an elderly woman commented me about my hair and said she liked it and thought the "part" across the back was very intresting..:)
I`m not quite sure I understand what your hair style is. I don`t know if I`m picturing it right. Could you explain it again? Is it just that the half-ponytail section is pulled up higher than normal so that the scalp is shown? If so, I don`t see why it would be ugly. Do what you like and don`t listen to those who say it`s weird or whatever. It`s your hair....or scalp, that is.

ok im going to try to give you a mental picture :) half of my hair is puled up into a ponytail then at about the ears theres a straight scalp line going sideways from one side to the other.then under the scalp line is the hair down. hope this helps give a better understanding of what my hair looks like

Ah OK, that`s what I thought but wasn`t sure. Like foxfan said it`s no biggie. Personally I like to see variations of traditional hairstyles. It helps break up the monotony a bit. If people are commenting on your hair/scalp there must be something a little different about it. I`m guessing you have a little more scalp showing than "normal" for that style. I think it`s kinda strange for your sister not to be able to handle that. Do the cactus-head Bjork look one day to really freak her out. :)
