Hi! What a mess I have. I went in for highlight touch-ups (and roots) and I came out with too-blonde hair. Is there a way to tone it down any? I have to get this dulled as soon as humanly possible. Suggestions??? Please???

Hi,

Hot water will instantly help any highlights or color to fade or tone down.

So shampoo your hair is hot water. Be careful, don`t scald yourself but as hot as is comfortable. Also, a secret trick that hairstylists know is to use Prell as a hair stripper. So you can add some Prell and it will dull the color quite a bit. You can also use a color shampoo and matching conditioner to try and tone the color down or even it out. Some colorists vehemently disagree with this opinion but I have had good luck with Aveda Blue Malva and Chamomile to even out my blonde hair after it is a little too light in some spots.

Finally you can use a temporary hair color that will shampoo out after a number of times. Select a shade just a little darker and apply that. The key is to get temporary color that is not going to stay. Do remember that porous hair can grab color of any type so pick a shade that is just 1 or 2 darker from where you are now.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Karen
