I need help on my french braiding. I pretty much know how to do it but it always ends up looking loose and chunky. Can anyone give me any tips?

I find that maintaining tension and keeping the strands the same size makes a tighter braid. If I want to make it really smooth, I do it with slightly damp hair (a plus is that when taken down it has terrific waves).
