Red Hair Washing Away First Shampoo - HELP

Sorry, I'm new here and I think I posted this question in the wrong forum, so I'm reposting to get an answer.  My hair was professionally highlighted for the first time with various shades of red at a fancy salon w/great reputation 3 days ago.  I washed it yesterday morning w/Pureology shampoo (another investment) and it washed away!  All over shower/tub, liner, and towel.  Noticed red on my face towel from just washing my face past few days!  I called salon yesterday morning and they said I had to speak to manager, who never returned my call.  Called this afternoon and she finally got on phone, telling me red hair washes out every time I shampoo and this is normal.  She told me to purchase dark towels.  The vibrancy isn't nearly what it was 3 days ago and I can see it has dulled already.  If I'm experiencing this after 3 days, how can I expect my highlights to last 12 weeks, but the manager insists this is normal.  I thought people had their hair done at salons to avoid the mess and for color to last.  This is a first for me, never had my hair dyed before, but this is a high rep salon, so I don't know what to think.  From what I've read, red washes out faster, but to have so much wash out from first shampoo?  Help, please.  I'm so new to this.  Thanks!  Irena

Any chance they used a semi-permanent color? What was your hair color before the appointment? I've heard that if you have light blonde hair or white highlights, then a "filler" is needed to give something for the new color to "hold on to" since the lighter your hair color, the less natural pigment is present. But, I'm not exactly sure since I'm not a pro. I would say that you should go back to the same salon so they can "see" what happened. Then they'll have less opportunity to give you the run-a-round if you're there instead of discussing it over the phone.

A quick note on red colors....it's a smallest of the color molecules which means it's the easiest to get into the hair and it's also the hardest to maintain in the hair.

I can't thank each of you enough!  My highlights have changed color drastically in only 7 days.  My ex-stylist wanted me to have some light brown/dark blonde hightlights and they're now orangish-blonde (very brassy - yuck!).  The reds that I chose are still red, just not as vibrant.  I'm afraid to get highlights again.  Thanks to everyone's advice, when I do get my hair dyed, I'll go the very dark brown route.  Then, I'll be able to go red and the red will adhere.  Thanks again - Irena

Just want to add,if you do get the ARTec,dont use red on blonde hair! It will make it look pinkish. Only use the ARTec red shampoo on hair that is red or brown.
