QuoteReplyTopic: Is Karen Shelton For Real? Posted: July 10 2001 at 12:37am
So is she real, real or a pen name? Has anyone met her and is she part vampire? She seems to be on the boards at all hours. So maybe this will make her mad but I am just wondering about her. She seems to be associated with this site?
Funny topic. The weird thing is that I actually think that I talked to her on the phone last nite. I called to place a phone order in the store & it was about 8:30 pm. A woman answered & she started helping me with all sorts of tips about my hair & how to deal with hair that is breaking off. Towards the end of the conversation I asked her for her name, which I do when I order over the phone in case there is a problem, and she said her name was Karen Shelton. I was a little shocked since I have been coming to this site for over 2 years & have been a fan or her columns & articles. I was shocked that she answered the order line for the store. I don`t think she normally does but I guess because it was late & she was there working she did. She actually seems to know a lot more about hair on the phone than she does in her columns, which is amazing when you think of it. My opinion is that she is real.

ROFLMAO. Yes I am real. Jeff Hines & I co-founded HairBoutique.com in 1997 as well as an earlier site which was another hair site that we started in 1996 called Long Hair Video (not long gone).
My close friends would probably agree I am part vampire since I rarely sleep and the only time I have to post on these boards is in the wee hours. However I am out in daylight and have been spotted driving around Dallas from time to time. :-)
It does frustrate me sometimes that I post my little heart out on the various boards and many times no one responds. So maybe it is because people think I am a ghost and there is no need to reply. :-(
Good topic. Please keep posting.

This is too funny. Though I have not met Karen in person, I have talked with her many times on the phone, including just last night, like Sheril !
Among those that know her well, Karen is a notorious workaholic and is awake at all hours of the day and night. How she does it is beyond me, but that she can, well... more power to her.

Yeah, I believe in you too Karen.... :o) And your posting your little heart out is always appreciated. She is a marvel - and one with awesome hair too.

Hi Dave,
Southwestern Bell can attest to the fact that I love to bend your ear on the phone about...what else...hair. :-) Actually your post reminded me of the times that I call you at the crack of dawn while you are getting ready to don the plaids stuff for the links. You are just getting up and I am still awake from an all nite marathon on HB.com :-)
By the way, thanks for your friendship and willingness to gab forever about hair topics.

Thank you Chris for your post and your email jokes. They make my day. :-) Thank you also for being a great supporter of HB.com.

I have known Karen for years. She is as wild and amazing in person as she appears on the Net. She first hired me at a telecom company in Dallas many years ago. When I had to move away for personal reasons she was the only one who really bothered to stay in touch and was there for me when I went through a very difficult and painful personal challenge. She rehired me to move back to Dallas when I needed help and then she hired me to work for the software company she owns and started from scratch (which is one of the coolest places to work and is a major success story). At the first telecom company where I met her all of her employees used to call her "the blonde flash" behind her back - in a loving way - because she had so damn much energy no one could ever keep up with her. She would fly through the halls about 250 miles an hour and you could almost see sparks flying off her brain as she "flashed by" with her blonde hair flying. I have to tell you that she is one of the smartest people that I have ever met. When it comes to business she is a true genius. And yes, she only sleeps about 2 hours a day.
She is so funny too. I don`t think people know that about her. If you get her going she will make you laugh so hard that you will be crying. She could do stand up comedy and be very successful because she is hilarious and looks at everything in such a funny vein.
Once she got her really gorgeous very long hair caught in a Ficus tree and I had to rescue her. To this day I am not sure what happened but she was laughing so hard she was crying with her hair all tangled in this tree.
While working for her software company I got a great job offer at one of her customer`s companies. Although I know it was very hard for her to see me leave her company she knew it was for my best interest and she and I worked it all out and she wished me the best. No hard feelings. We still have lunch every couple of weeks. She will come zooming up to the various restaurants about 90 miles an hour in her black Porsche convertible with her long hair flying out the back. Quite a sight. People stop and stare. I am not sure if it is her amazing beautiful long hair, her car or her amazing energy that seems to radiate off of her.
She is such a special person. I have seen her at her very worst and her very best and she is one of a kind. She has a giant heart and is very loyal. If you are her friend she will stand by you through hell and back. She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She has hordes of friends, both male and female. Loyalty is her forte. She built HairBoutique.com out of her own personal checkbook, with her heart and soul and her love of the visitors that depend on her to be here. Not to mention working on the site every single day for the past 5 years. Karen is not afraid of hard work. She will work till she literally drops.
What else can I say? There is only one Karen and I am very proud to say that I am her friend.

There are NO plaids in my golf wardrobe! Don`t be spreading such vicious and false rumors about my sartorial style, or what would be a serious lack thereof were I to actually don plaids! :-)
Now, back in the mid 70`s was another story. (hee hee). Ah well, we all get wisdom as we get older, right?
And yes, I love talking with you about hair-related issues. There`s always something amazing happening in the world of hair.

Dear Karen:
I would really enjoy hearing how this ficus tree came out and attack you. lol Remember when we all shared funny stories about our hair this story would have been perfect. Maybe if you have time I would enjoy having a good laugh.

OK Jane, now you did it, you made me cry. :-) Your post touched me deeply.
It is so funny the things people remember. The Ficus tree incident will probably live forever and yes, thanks for untangling me. :-)
