QuoteReplyTopic: I don`t know what to do with my hair!! Posted: July 16 2001 at 2:35am
Hi! My name is Shelbie. I just found this website and think it is really neat. I have straight, long, THICK hair. When I say thick, I mean litterally horse tail thick. In fact I use ManeNTail shampoo for horses (and humans) and it works great! My problem is I`ve kind of gotten in a rut with my hair. I feel like I`ve been doing the same thing with it 4-ever. I`ve searched the internet for the latest styles for people with thick hair but all I find is people with curly, thick hair. When I do see someone with long hair, it`s up in a way that my hair is just too heavy to support. I`ve considered cutting it... some. I don`t think I could EVER cut it at or above shoulder length. I`m open to putting some color in it, but concerned if that will take away it`s natural shine? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
hey Shelbie my name is Sarah! i have incredibly thick hair too! It used to be really long but i just gave up and decided to cut it! my hair is at my shoulders now and i love it! It isn`t to short but it isn`t near as much of a hassle as it used to be! I can still curl it and wear it down but it goes up in just about anyway you want it to. My hair is layered and looks great down b/c it has so much volume and it`s cute up too b/c i have so much hair!! I think with think hair keeping it at a medium length is the best way to work with it. Adding color didn`t do a thing to my shine my hair still looks just as shiny and beautiful as it did before i colored it except now it is the shade i want it to be! I hope this reply was of help to you! ~Sarah~

Hello Shelbie! Nice picture. I also have that same horse tail thick hair except mine has a natural wave and if I wish I can easily encourage it to be straight but because of my perm right now it has some wave. Mine reaches my waist. It can be heavy at times and frustrating especially when it seem that not one barrette or hair tie is really good for my thickness because they tend to break. Okay you might find this funny. No matter how frustrating I find it I tend to love it because I feel I have so much hair like a lion. I also feel more attractive knowing that to some people they envy knowing that my hair is nice and thick. I especially love my hair in the winter because it does keep me warm.
Shelbie, since you don`t want short hair try going to a medium lenght like shoulders. You could cut your bangs shorter and lighten the color. Go to a stylist and ask to have your hair thinned. It will help if you go to the right person, ask alot of questions before you do anything other wise you might regret it.

I have to agree with some of the previous posts. You need to get rid of some of that hair - it is overwhelming. I would start with a shoulder length cut with some layering around the face. In the picture you provided, the bangs looked like the old fashioned over-curled type. Go for more natural bangs. An experienced hairstylist can also do wonders with some thinning of the hair.

Do you have a regular stylist? If not, I`d schedule a consultation with at least a couple of stylists who can actually look at your face and hair and feel the texture of it and give you their suggestions. To be honest, the image is a bit disorted, and it`s difficult to see the exact style of your hair. What different ways have you been styling it? Do you want a versatile haircut or just something different than what you have?
