curls that look like locks

 

I always wanted to have that short dreadlock style and wouldn't do coz it really harm would harm the hair and takes a long time to develop wich i honestly dont have the commitment to do..so i was wondering if there is a method to achieve sth similar to that look but without actually have dread locks..i recently took a small section of my hair and wrapped around my finger very hard then wrapped around itself for days and when i realesed it this hair section or bundle was curled, i guess, closely tight and in the form of ringlets and then i kept twisting it from time to time...it kinda looked like a dread lock..i am not sure how to do it on all my hair..so if any body have any experience on how to achieve that look, please share...maybe with sites with pics for men hair sth similar to that look...steps...products...anything

here is john legend did he did it by twisting, i d like to know how he did but i personally would liked it better if it was longer
