QuoteReplyTopic: Coloring over highlights??? Posted: March 15 2007 at 3:49pm
I have naturally red hair (a light auburn/copper color) that I just got blonde highlights in about 3-4 weeks ago. I have a very cool complexion (with red undertones) and blue eyes. I am thinking I'd like to go blonde all over. I was going to buy a home hair color kit, but when I called the hotline to pick a color, they said I shouldn't color over my hair with new highlights in it. Is this true???
If so, how long do I have to wait to color my hair? They suggested I go to a salon, which I may end up doing because I really don't know what color to pick. I think their main concern was that I would over process the highlights by going blonde all over.
You should not do box color over highlights b/c color doesn't lift color. You want to lighten. Try a highlight kit and instead of the cap, do chunky foils. Go to the website Makeup Alley they have some great reviews of home hair color :)

I agree with emu. I liked my highlights so much that I wanted blonde all over to.So, I got my sister-in-law to foil mine.It looks great foiled. If u did it all over color. It would look bad.Cuz of the color of your skin.I think all over blonde looks good on someone tan or atleast med. skin.I'm med. skin, but I think the highlights looks better. I really think u should go to a Salon & get them to put heavy chunks of blonde in it.That would look good.I'm kinda jealious of u.Cuz r a real readhead.I love auburn hair.Lucky u.
