QuoteReplyTopic: good hairstyles for short layerd hair w/extensions Posted: April 04 2007 at 10:01pm
I just wanted to know if anyone knew some links with people who had short hair and lots of layers. Because I want to install.. 26-28 inch.. and I know I am going to have to goto a salon and get a awesome razor cut layer style..my shortest layer is ear length and I don't want to end up looking like I have a mullet.
What you are asking for will be a challenge to pull off. You will have to wear a lot of hair (probably at least 8-12 ounces) and pretty much cover most of your head with extensions. They will need to go as far forward in the front and as high on the head as you can get away with.
Most wefts are sold in 4 ounce packages. I'd buy at least 2 packages, and even 3 package would be better to make sure you have enough hair. The longer lengths of hair require more hair to make it look good.
My choppy short hair requires at the very least 8 ounces but usually upwards of 12 to be able to blend it well. Check out my new install, you can see how short my hair is.

hiya again lishabear! i bought some of that hair from ebonyline just last week...i've kinda worked backwards over the past year: i bought bohyme because it was more expensive so i thought that would be best, but then i realized that buying hair was like being on crack(not that i know that first hand!) and i've bought several types looking for ones that 'last'....and now, im back down to the bottom of the chum-bucket buying unique wiiv with the expectation that it will only last ONE install (which for me with the tape/Liquid Gold is about 5weeks now)
the reason? i've gotten LAZY!! i already clean my house, im not wanting to clean the wefts too! disposable hair, thats what im using it for....i've worn the unique wiiv bodywave for an install before and it worked well but was getting POOFY at the end (buy thankfully not tangly)...i bought the straight this time and its been in for a week
I must say that i agree with you on that one. i know that purchasing a more expensive brand will give me that long wear. However i'm not one of those chicks who wants to sit in the bathroom/ kitchen WHEREVER!, caring for the hair. Dont get me wrong i do take great care of the hair i buy so it last long. But i have spent over $200 on Remy hair from my local BSS (beauty supply store..i love the fact that im learning the terminology on this site..SWEETT) anywho, (as u can probably see i'm easily distracted)...even after buying the hair and it lasting a long time..i kind of got sick of it..so Nursie i believe i will go your route.
live love laugh

ok i opened a pack of 18"-20" unique wiiv, and the weft was approximately 58" long...shorter length hair will be a bit longer weft, and longer hair a shorter weft length

I have a girlfriend who feels the same way, but for her it's because she never wears the same hair twice, and she doesn't want to spend money on remy hair.. (She's also SCARED TO DEATH of purchasing ANYTHING online let alone HAIR!!)
I have a different take on it though.. Longevity is important to me.. I wear my installs at least 8-12 weeks and I need hair that will behave the ENTIRE time... Most cheap hair will not last the duration of my installs. So I don't mess around with it.. I also don't wear bonded weaves so there's no weft cleanup involved in my takedowns.. I simply snip the tracks out, clip the hair together, wash it and re-install.. (Okay so TECHNICALLY my stylist does all of this work ) When I wear bonded tracks I wear it for shorter periods of time and I use cheap hair (Don't want glue on my good stuff), so I usually just throw it away..
Two of the ladies on BHM summed it up like this:

Ok, let's look at some real math.
If BSS hair is bought that costs $25 and has to be replaced monthly, that's $300 per year.
IF EPRT hair is bought that costs $250 and lasts all year, that's $250.
or, put another way:
BSS hair that tangles, sheds and lasts a month: $300
EP hair that doesn't tangle or shed and lasts a year: $250
Knowing your hair will ALWAYS be on point: PRICELESS

YEAH Soulie It's like buying platinum that you can keep for years instead of that costume jewelry that turns on u and u have to throw it out and waste some more $$$

I concur on this point also. Logically it saves you money. On the flip side I'm one of those girls who WILL wear the hair for quite sometime (1 or 2 months) but I change the hairstyle (cuttiny layers with a razor, or just cutting it period) that when i'm ready to reuse I would need to put the hair back in the EXACT SAME WAY or look like a broke neck chicken...that's why i've been so interested in learning about Thermal or just going back to BSS. different strokes for different folks
FYI ...OHH HOW I DO LOVE THAT REMY!! struggling SOON TO BE LAWYERS are ALMOST always BROKE..lol

I feel you girl.. I guess it's easier to put things back where they belong when you have someone doing it for you.. I admire anyone with the SKILLZ to do their own weave!
I suggested thermal hair for my girl who likes to change hair all the time.. I figure if she's gonna just throw it away, why not spend less money.. Her stylist and I are working on her.. I may buy her some thermal hair for her B-Day to help give her a nudge! I figure she'll be hooked once she tries it..

Well when you get that parchment, and get your first gig at that Mahattan firm billing clients $200 and UP, you'll be able to buy all the hair you want!!!
