Unfortunately it is true. They put so many lights on those models to get hair to look that shiny is not even funny.

However, healthy hair does shine. Shiny hair happens when the hair cuticle lays complety flat. That's why super straight hair is shiny. The smooth flat cuticle reflects light. Using a good deep conditioner, regular trims and a good quality flat iron (if your hair is curly) will give you really shiny hair. You can also help it with products such as Redken Heat glide and Bioloage shine renewal (it really works, I've tried it).

I have a Sedu flat iron, and the first thing I noticed the day I got it, was how shiny it made my hair. So maybe you should try a flat iron. Make sure is a good one though, because the cheap ones have totally the oposite effect. They fry the cuticle of the hair, making it rise up and cause hair to frizz.

Hope that helps!

Well, if you find any other way of doing it, other than what I described above, please, please, please let me know. Because I've been straightening my curly hair for the past 20 years and unless the hair is well conditioned, and super straight, it will not shine. I mean, my hair looks shiny and healthy, but if  I wanted to make it that glossy, I would have to put alot of product in my hair. That girl in the picture had some serious flat ironing done and she has a ton of silicone in her hair. It even looks greasy. Believe me, I'm always at my friend's salon, and the only hair that is that glossy is hair that is naturaly super straight, and fine in texture. They do hair for almost anyone who is on television in the caribean, and you don't want to know what they have to do get hair to shine when those people have photo shoots. Lets just say that after the photo shoot is done, they have to wash their hair. For most of them they have to put in extensions (the really straight kind).

The rest of us need a blow dryer, a flat iron, and yes silicone, to make that happen. Again, in order for hair to shine it has to be able to reflect light, and the only way to do it is with a smooth surface.

Try the shine renewal spray from biolage. It really makes your hair shiny and super soft. However, you must blow dry and flat iron the hair straight first, since curly hair doesn't reflect ligh (unless you coat it with a ton of product to make it smooth).

Good luck and great hair!

See, this girl has glossy hair and this is just a regular picture she submitted for a contest (Hometown Hotties on Maxim.com) that someone took of her.  It is not professionally done and there is no special lighting.  Now tell me that is fake.....

Oh no problem girlSmile! I kind of new that LOL. Hey for what is worth, I really don't think the girls were trying to be rude. I know for a fact Jules is very nice. I read alot of her posts.

The girl above really has beatiful hair!! I love it. However, when I take pictures with my digital camera, my hair comes out just like that. In person it still looks shiny but not that glossy.  I just don't want you to go crazy thinking you are doing something wrong if you can't get it to look that glossy in personSmile. By the way, what is your hair texture? Maybe you won't need as much effort after all.

Well, talk to you later!!!

Sweetpea!!

I just remembered!! I can't believe I had forgotten.  There is a product made by Sebastian that is designed to add gloss to hair without adding color. It is called Sebastian Colourshines and the color is Clear. It is a clear glaze that is applyied pretty much the same way as semi-permanent color, exept there is no color. It is a clear glaze, designed to act the same way laminate works on pictures. It is really good and it lasts through, I think is 28 shampoos. You can get it done at almost any Salon, or if you have someone that knows how to apply color (or you feel comfortable doing it yourself) you can buy a bottle for about $28.00 and do it at home. The bottle contains enough to do about 4 treatments, depending on hair length. To get it done at the salon costs about $40. So you would save a bundle by doing it yourself. It is a professional product, but they sell it at most beauty supplies. I think they have it at Sally's and I know they have it at Navarro's (don't know if you have those in your area). You can also find it on E-bay and at DiamondBeauty.com

As a matter of fact I'm getting on E-bay right now to try and get one for a good price. I had totally forgotten about it. It really helps produce that glossy look.

Sweetpea, every camera has a flash on the camera~that DOES add to the hair's shininess in the picture....although certainly not all of it.

The second girl you listed has probably very natural and well kept hair. Looks free of chemical damage.
Some other tips for shine are:

1) Always rinse hair with cool water when getting out of the shower. It seals the cuticle and hair looks shinier.

2) Invest in getting an IONIC hairdryer. They tame frizz and also add shine.

3) A smoothing serum can make dull hair look super. Something like John Frieda's Frizz ease or my personal fave Tigi Bedhead After-party.

4) Although alot of chemical treatments make hair dry, using a semi dye or hair glosser can add lots of shine.

Follow all these steps, and what Sharyq11 told you,and your hair should be just as shiney,if not more so than these girls you posted here.
Good luck.

And no,I definitely wasnt trying to be rude...Just pointing out models have many tricks to why they look so good.

My hair is 3-4 inches past my shoulders, medium to fine texture, slightly wavy if I air dry it, most of my highlights are grown out so it is mostly virgin hair.  I have been eating really well and taking vitamins and fish oil pills.  I heard they really help new hair grown in shinier and help with the skin and preventing wrinkles and I know they are good for heart health (also, I read in a magazine that Eva Longoria takes them and she has beautiful hair and skin).  Heart disease runs in the family.  Anyways, I know that is besides the point.  I have been eating really healthy for the past year and my hair, skin and nails have shown great improvement.  My hair is pretty shiny but I do like that glossy look of the girls hair above in the most recent pic I posted.  Hair products I use are the John Frieda Brilliant Brunnette line for dark shades and once a week I will use Neutrogena daily control dandruff shampoo.  I also use a deep conditioning mask by Tresseme.

Well your hair sounds pretty healthy. Even healthy hair can use a little boost now and then though. Since you already use John Frieda's Brillant brunette, you should try the frizz ease. You dont need much and hair will be very glossy.

In no way was my comment rude. You asked how that particular girl gets glossy hair, and it is pretty obvious she had technological help.

In that brilliant brunette line theres a good tube of stuff called shine shock. It says to put in through soaking wet hair but i find doin that makes my hair hardish and rough so i dont use anything when im drying it then i straighten with ghd's and put a little of the shine shock on dry hair. Also a bit of wax helps. Try Loreal fx studio architect wax. My hairs quite damaged so Im sure u would get a lot more out of doing that. Ive heard henna hair colours work well 2 give shine 2.

Simply Stylin makes an absolutely horrible product.  It will ruin your hair.

They rip off their customers and the product doesn't even work.  They also go to great lengths to spam websites to get free advertising rather than pay for their own.  Which makes sense because their website is so amateur it is laughable.  Obbviously a bunch of rip off artists.

Do not do business with Simply Stylin.  These people are seriously bad news.  They will rip you off.
