I just bought a curling iron and I have no idea of how to use it! How do you work the clamp thing, and how do you get big bouncy curls? I bought a 1-inch barrel.

A curling iron is a really versatile tool. I usually prefer to use it on hair that has not been washed for 24 hours, it handles a little better (not so soft). I also put a small recommend using a thermal spray to protect the hair during curling. Not every curling iron will curl, it depends on the size of curling iron you are using. If the barrel is too big, it will not curl. It is usually better if take smaller sections to curl, and put the iron in the middle of the strand of hair and curling from that point. You also might want to open and close the iron and turn it at the same time to add in the rest of the curl, so you are really getting the entire strand into the iron. If you want some soft waves, like Madonna, that`s really easy to achieve. You take a strand, approximately an inch, taking the curling iron and wrapping it around the whole iron, just like little ringlets and dropping it down. And do it all the way around your head. Remember, to keep your iron closed, wrapping the hair around the iron all the way down to the end, and then slipping it out of the iron and you will have these ringlets. If you don`t like the ringlets take your fingers and loosen them up and it will be soft waves. Hope this helps. Happy curling!! :)
