i recently received this hair cut from hell...I have very thick beautiful hair and i've been growing it out for 7 years now...I'm fairly new to the area and have been looking around for a stylist...A girl that i work with's mom cuts hair so i decided to make an appointment with her...When we sat down to talk about what i wanted to do, i told her that i really like full hair, but i needed some layers in it so that it flows together...Some how she decided to thin my hair...Instead of the traditional way of using a razor or thinning shears, she cut chunks of hair out at the base...Now i have missing sections of hair underneath what's left of my long hair...I asked her for the money back and she got all defensive and said that this was a thinning technique used at all of the major salons...I went and had my hair looked at by a couple of people and no one has ever heard of this method...So i'm stuck with this hair that makes me cry everytime i think about it...One stylist suggested that I get extensions until my hair grows out...I'm cool with that, but in order for them to be properly done, it's gonna cost a pretty penny...I feel that she should be held accountable for the cost incurred while my hair grows out...I spoke to the owner of the salon that she works at and she's a private contractor so they are not responsible for her actions...I guess what i'm wondering is Legally can i hold her responsible??
I can't say I ever heard of doing it that way either, (though I'm no pro, and I don't frequent salons so most of what I know about them comes from this board or when I went decades ago).
I think you'd have to sue her to get that kind of money out of her, so for this you're going to need the advice of a lawyer. What I think - is that the basis for whether it will fly or not will largely be your appearance. Does it really look bad when you look in the mirror, or does it just look thinner than it did? Are they short patches that only you know you have on the underside? In other words, how necessary are the extensions?
Oh, and I'm no lawyer either, so if a lawyer responds, listen to them instead of me!

if my hair lays perfectly flat and does not move then you can not notice the path missing...But the second I move my head or the wind gets a hold of it then it's noticeable...Not to mention the fact that I feel incredibly self conscience...
Your hair must have been very long after 7
years of growth. How long was it? how long would it be if you cut off
the ruined part?
I've had horrible cuts before too. About a
year ago, a stylist cut bangs that went nearly halfway back to the end
of my part. They were really thick and short. I'm still growing out the
residue of that cut, but now I have thin, longer bangs and the rest of
the old bangs are now face framing layers. At first I waws soo pissed
and resentful and felt so self conscious. It got a little better once I
figured out how to wear my hair in public without looking completely
like a 2nd grader. and the bangs slowly grew out so that I could adapt
to them. Once I wasn't as self conscious, the only thing that caused me
pain was thinking about that lady and holding resentment towards her.
I would suggest you don't sue her. It would
take up your time and money and cause you to spend more time hating
her. FOrget about her, it will only cause you more grief, and focus on
how to make yourelf feel better. If she's a bad stylist then that will
eventually end up being her own problem cause she won't get much
business.
What I would do is figure out how to work wit hthe
hair you have now. Maybe you could cut of 1 or 2 more inches of the
length, and it won't look quite as bad? That small amount can make a
bigger difference than you think. THen maybe you could trim off small
amount over time, so that your hair is still growing back and you're
also fixing the cut. And take good care of your hair and your self so
that it will grow back that much quicker and healthier.
I know it hurts because 7 years is such a long
time. Remember that it will grow back. and it sounds like you still
have alot of lenght to work with so I don't see any need to be
self conscious.
Also, when Iget a bad hair cut I just
put it up in a style or 2 that looks good and it helps me froget about
it for a month or 2. Then viola, I have more hair to work with.
