QuoteReplyTopic: Over one year ago people were jealous of my thick curly hair, but now they just laugh at it!!!! Posted: November 20 2001 at 9:20am
Over two years ago i had what most people would say hair to be jelous of. It was thick, curly and dark to medium blonde, and it came down to the middle of my back. I was so happy with my hair, then i decided to bleach my hair white blonde, at first everything seemed fine, and my hair was taking the bleach well. Then i fell out of my hairdresser, so i decided to do it at home, with the advice of the local hair shop. To my absolute distruction my hair went a blue grey colour. I was in a panik, so they next day i went to another hairdresser to help me, they then died my hair to red, then back to blonde. At the end of the day my hair just fell out in clumbs, just touching my hair was to cause my hair to fall out. Now that was over 6 months ago and since then my hair has just got worse, it is now extremly thin and handfulls still fall out. Even the natural curls that i had have dissapeared, and it doesnt seem to be growing like it did. It is just a plain mess. but now i am extremly worried that my good hair days are over, i am not even 30 yet, but my hair looks like it is 100 years old. Can anyone help me please. i really could do with any advice, as i am seem to be trying everything to get back the good quality, but nothing is working... I really would appreciate any advice. Thank you Natasha

It sounds like your hair has become overprocessed. If hair is excessively curly, hard to comb when wet, fuzzy textured and rough feeling when dry, it has been overprocessed. In extreme cases, the hair is matted, making it very difficult to comb and style. To restore overprocessed hair to health and manageability, use a deep conditioning cream, such as Nature`s Therapy Mega Moisture Nurturing Creme (available at your local Sally`s store) to soften, detangle, tame and add shine. You might also try Monoi Oil (available at your local health food store or online at several sites), I find it works wonders on dry, damaged hair. You should also use shampoo and conditioner made for overprocessed hair. Nutrition is important too so eat right and take a good multivitamin. It will take some time to correct the damage but have patience, you can recover your crowning glory again.

Thank you for your advice, i will look for the products you mentioned as soon as possible, and i really hope they can offer me some future for my bad hair. ONe more question though would you recommened that i do not colour my hair any more and let my natural colour grow back or would it be safe to colour the roots, as my hairdresser thinks that colouring my roots will not hurt my hair ? what do you think on this ? Thank you again Natasha

Coloring your roots should not be a problem - they are the healthiest part of your hair right now. I would recommend not coloring any other part of your hair until you restore your hair to good health. Merlin`s recommendations were good and, after you give them a try, if you find you need more help, there are still other things you can try. Hang in there and be patient!!

OH! One more thing: stay away from heat as much as possible - it will only dry your hair out more. If you MUST use a blow dryer, use the lowest temperature setting, keep it at least 6 inches from your hair, and keep it moving. I would recommend not using a curling iron or hot rollers at all. Steam curlers with the conditioning liquid added would not be as damaging if used sparingly. Be gentle!!
