hey
ive recently decided to grow my hair, and also recently started straightening it. i've always had fluffy/curly hair, so straightening it isn't causing the problem. whenever my hair comes into contact with water it turns extremely fluffy and curly. this is a problem when it rains, and after ive washed it. my hair actually looks rediculous just after ive washed it, and i straighten it when its dried (which is quite a task because it's so dry!), but after straightening it it still looks really puffy. after 3/4 days of no contact with water my hair is nice and manageable, but after this it starts to get greasy (obviously), so then i have to wash it again so its fluffy..
i realise rain makes most peoples hair bad, but mine is much, much worse than anyone else i know.
i was wondering if theres anything i can put on my hair (serum or oil maybe?) that i could put on it after washing it to stop it being so fluffy? and does anyone know a way i can prevent water doing this to my hair in the first place? will using better straighteners prevent water curling my hair so much?
I don't know much about straightening, but your hair is likely to only get frizzier and drier the more you use heat on it. This isn't a big problem unless your hair is longer (because then you'd keep more of it before cutting it off).
You may not want to hear this, but you might want to try leaving your hair unstraightened, and using oil. Oil will reduce any frizziness or poofiness, so you might even like it in its natural state and have to do much less work on it. Jojoba is a good oil, but it is costly, so you can probably just use some olive oil from the kitchen to see if you will like it before you buy some. Use only one drop at first, and don't really put it near the scalp (unless your hair is fairly short). It will weigh hair down like your natural scalp oil would. If you think you want to try more, then try two drops. If you don't overdo it, it should not look greasy at all (if it does, you used too much, you'll have to wash it out).
Using oil however, is probably going to interfere with your straightening (it probably won't hold). That's why I said you'd probably just want to see if it helps your hair in its natural state.
The other option is chemical straightening, which you have to get done at a salon, then you could oil it afterwards, it would weigh it down, and it wouldn't make it go curlier again...but the chemicals will also make it very dry.
Changing textures is tough. Good luck.
