Hey, this mite be considered a noob or random room question but i figured it'd get more looks on the main page. anyway i was curious about the overbrushing theory. my top rite near the back isn't completely waving yet and usually the vets say brush more. then recently i saw a post that said dont brush a spot too much or it wont wave at all. so my question is, when are you considered to be overbrushing a specific spot and overbrushing in general???

That's exactly what i read when i was a newbie and found out thru experience that that isn't true. Tho if you're scalp starts hurting then you are overbrushing. That won't break your wave pattern; it'll just have your head sore for a couple of days.

^^ To add to that I used to brush and I would hit my ears every time I brushed. Whether it was a soft or medium brush my ears would hurt afterwards. I think Cash had this problem or something similar to it, but I knew I was brushing too much then because my ears were getting sore.
Another way of looking at it is as if your working out for example: When your working out and your body is sore that's a good sign or way past the good sign that you've reached your limit. So when your brushing if this occurs I think you should stop and wait awhile or like TSOH said and use a softer brush.

thanx fellas. I thought that wave fact was a little odd. but anyway for the parts that are tight am i still cool to brush them as much as my weak section or should i slack up and just focus more on that spot?

I don't know if overbrushing is quite the word for that but usually "overbrushing" occurs with a hard brush on a normal scalp or sometimes a medium brush on a sensitive scalp.
It can stop the progress over your waves and it can also cause thinning. However, overbrushing doesn't just happen in an instant. Its a gradual and its pretty much common sense. YOU CAN DETECT IT. If your brushing and your scalp starts to hurt, stop brushing or use a softer brush.
As long as you do this you should be good from damaging your hair/scalp.
