QuoteReplyTopic: corrective color issues, please help! need advice! Posted: June 21 2007 at 3:45pm
OK, so this is a bit of a long story. I'd been bleaching my hair platinum for about a year & decided that I wanted to go back to my natural color (level 7 ash blonde) so I wouldn't have to mess with it anymore. I grew out my roots about an inch before seeing my stylist, who used a filler & then put level 7 color on my hair. My head of hair turned dark red & my root area turned bright orange, so I went back a couple days later & had her fix the red. After that, the red was gone from the lengths of my hair, but it's still darker than my natural color & my roots are still really brassy & about a shade lighter than the rest of my hair. I held up my hair to swatches at Sally's & it's between a level 5 & a level 6. My hair looks really damaged & I'm afraid if I go back & have it lightened it'll look horrible. My stylist said that if I just let it grow out the roots won't be noticeable. True? Also, I really need to get this fixed before the end of July because I'm moving to another country & I'm not comfortable doing corrective color over there. So what is the best course of action here? Please help me!
I think you can either darken your roots, perhaps with a toner or a developer and color and shampoo mixture, or lighten the ends (with a bleach/developer/shampoo mixure, I guess). Getting the balance between the two might be tricky, though.

hi, what country are you moving to? about your hair...ask your stylist if you won't have a weird band around your head with the brassy roots...that does not sound right....i would make her fix your hair....your hair is super pourous from bleaching but there are ways of dealing w/that...if i were you, i'd go back to the salon and talk to the manager...they should fix your hair for you....tell us what happens. good luck.

Thanks for the responses. Thankfully my hair's faded a bit & the brassiness at the roots is less noticeable. I probably will have some banding as my hair grows out, but I'm really afraid to go back & have it colored again because it could turn out even worse & if they have to fix it again my hair will be so damaged I'll probably have to get it cut short... which I really really don't want to do since I would look horrible with short hair. I'm moving to Japan & I'm a little nervous to color my hair over there because I've been told they use stronger chemicals. Do you think my level 7 roots will be noticeable as my level 6 color grows out? If not then I think I'm just going to deal with this color situation so I won't have to chop my hair off. Let me know what you think. Thanks so much!
thanks.

Its likily that out in the sun, the colors will fade and blend together also. I had red and blonde highlights done in my naturally dark brown hair (about a level 4), after a while, less than a year, they faded and blended from sun and the way dyes just naturally do over time, and I honestly forgot that I'd even had them done a year later, lol.
you could always try, picking up some demi/semi color at Sallys or somewhere before you leave, so in a while after your hair as recovered it gets a more even coating of color. The ends of your hair will likily be darker than the roots if you do this, simply because they're more poreous, but its easy option, more gentle than permanent also.
