QuoteReplyTopic: HELP! Want to lighten colored hair at home! Posted: June 24 2007 at 11:34am
Hello all! A few weeks ago I posted a message on this board
looking for help on my hair color disaster. I had three color look
going (strawberry blonde, brassy blonde, and dark blonde...natural
color) and it wasn't good. So, I took the advice to just go to a
professional and have a color correction done. I just wanted to get
back to my natural dark blonde color! Well, long story short, they
matched a color to my roots, but what I ended up with was a medium to
dark brown! I was so upset I just left the salon right away and called
them the next day to see if they could correct it, but they said they
would have to charge me again! I had already spent money going to
another stylist to fix the hair cut they botched, and I don't want to
spend even more money to have someone screw up the color again! Is
there anyway that I could help this color fade quickly!
I have already tried:
1. Baking soda and shampoo...didn't really work. 2. Clarifying shampoo...may take a while. 3. Dawn dish soap (upon the salons rec)...sort of lightened it to a med./light brown.
I am now looking at: 1. Lemon Juice and vinegar. 2. Lemon Juice and Egg. 3. Lemon juice and chamomile in the sun.
Any suggestions? -Jocelyn

Hi Sorry to hear of your experiance you had at the salon. To lighten your hair a little, you can use whats called a bleach bath. Amixture of bleach, 3% develper, shampoo and water, mix all together and emulsify evenly through wet hair for no more than 2-3 mins no longer, then rinse well and condition hair. This should lighten your hair.

man, i would have had some kind of fit if that had happened to me...did you speak to the manager? i would have asked to speak to the actual owner about that crap......i did that once when a girl charged me 50.00 to lighten two pieces of hair and it broke off....called and got all sorts of items and such for my trouble and a vip card for any service.....it's a bad way to do business and that money is hard earned and she should be ashamed of herself and the salon too for saying what they did to you....you might think about not keeping your mouth shut and call and speak w/mgr and if that does not work ask for owner...you should at the least get your money back....so sorry that happened to you.

Hi Lovetocolor, I also agree with you. Unfortunatly not every salon will own up to their error. and so people feel intimadated and fear saying anything, which is a shame. If I make a mistake with clients hair ,( which doesnt happen to often) I will do all I can to fix it with no charge, but I work for myself and have no boss breathing down my neck.
I would agree It is your hard earned cash as you deserve the service you ask for.

I"d try to avoid bleaching or acidic things like lemon juice. It could do more damage than its worth especially since you've already been though quite a few dying processes. Lemon juice can have really odd results if the hair as been chemically processed.
If you're DESPRATE to have it change immediately and can't wait just a few weeks to let it fade (using the clarifying poo, not using color protectant products, staying out in the sun, etc) - A bleach bath might be your best bet, but I def agree with Karen that it should be a very quick one.
Thanks all for your suggestions! I did talk to them again recently, and they said I could come in and have them look at it, but once again they can't guarantee anything because I signed a piece of paper when I came in and apparently on this paper is some sort of statement saying they aren't liable for unwanted results that come out if you have previously dyed your hair with box color. Should of read that paper more carefully. I just saw the part that said I was getting my hair done by a newbie under the strict eyes of a highly licensed professional. I should ask to see that paper again... Anyway, I spent quite a bit of time outside lately with work, which has actually faded the color quite a bit, and I am happy to say that I am noticing a change towards something similar to dark strawberry blonde, which I can deal with! Thanks all!

hey, i found something that takes the color out of my hair....deep conditioner left on for a couple of hrs or even 30 min....do it 2-3 times in a row and see if that takes anything out....i found this out by accident. but it is good to know, it works on mine anyway. glad your hair is where you can look at yourself without getting mad
