Face shape: I am having the worst time deciding what my face shape is. I`ve tried various websites and have turned out as a round, an oblong and an oval. I think the oval looks the most like my face shape, but I don`t look good in all cuts. I think my forehead is a tad too high and lots of hair right next to my face tends to overwhelm it. Short layers or volume above the chin tend to make my face look plump.

Hair: currently medium length (a couple inches above bra line in back with some chin-level layers in front), medium-thick, straight, medium texture

Any ideas on what I can do to my hair to fit my athletic, busy lifestlye and still look girly? :)

Oblong and oval, maybe, but round is definitely different from the two. Round is the same length vertical as horizontal, oblong and oval are longer vertical than horizontal..... hope the following ramblings help.....

Even tho you may be a blend of two or three, one will usually dominate -- for me its a fight between round and square. Depending on the day and my weight, it`s a constant battle but round usually wins -- it was a confusing fight, but this is the only way I found a definitive answer: Then!! I stop off at the HB.com hair gallery ( http://gallery.hairboutique.com/ ) and plug in my stats to come up with a style.

Outline Your Face
Simply draw an outline of your face on the mirror. This is done by watching your reflection as you stand in front of the mirror.

Locate Six points
While looking into the mirror, mark on the mirror your face reflection six reference points.
Put a dot on top of each cheek bone. Put a dot on each jaw bone. Put a dot above each outside brow bone.

Joint Them Up
To identify your face shape, connect the dots with a line. Note where your face is narrow and where it is widest. You will now be able to tell whether you are curvilinear or angular.

~~~~~~~~~
Oval -- High cheekbones and a chin slightly narrower than the forehead characterize an oval face.
Square -- Wide angular cheekbones and chin along, with a broad jaw line, characterize the square face. One needs to add length to the face.
Round -- No angles but symmetry of equal height and width characterize this individual. To downplay the roundness, select cuts with straight or angular lines.
Diamond -- Small forehead and a wide temple area gradually narrow to a small chin. Prominate high cheekbones often accompany this face shape.
Oblong -- This face shape has a forehead, cheek and jawline similar in width giving rise to “longer than wide” One needs to select cuts that shorten and widen the face, resulting in a more balanced facial look.
Base-Down Triangle -- With a base down triangle person, the jaw is the widest part of the face. Your goal should be to add width and emphasis to the narrow upper third of the face.
Inverted Triangle -- This shape is defined by a broad forehead and narrow mouth and chin. Try narrowing the forehead and adding width to the chin and cheeks.
Hair type: fine but thick; natural blonde with 15% grey
