1) do machine wefts have a shorter wear span than machine wefts?
and i was just curious is 5 oz of curly indian hair [ 12'' handtied weft] enough for a full weave?
IMO machine wefts will generally have a longer lifespan than handtied wefts.. However this depends on the quality of the wefts to begin with.. There are crappy machine wefts, and crappy handtied wefts out there too..
As for your second question: The general rule of thumb for hair up to 16" long is that 8 oz is what is required for a full head weave. (with or without hair left out) However some brands have wider wefts, and therfore could cover more area with less hair -- if that makes sense.. So to answer your question, 5 oz of hair could do a full weave if the width of the weft is long enough. For example: When I had my 14"-17" Extensions Plus Natural Curl hair installed, the weave only required 4 oz of hair plus a closure.. If I had done a full weave (no hair out) without a closure, we would have needed 6 oz.. These wefts (the EPNC hair) are long enough that two 3oz bundles can do a full head.. HTH

I completely agree with diva about the machine wefts ... i bought my first set of hand tied bohyme a few months ago when i was used to machine wefted, and as i took it out of the packaging and ran my hand down the hair, literally HANDFULS of hair were shedding off! And i hadnt even installed it yet : (
