Hi there,

I recently tried colouring my hair (going from a medium brown, to - what I hoped for - a Jennifer Aniston blonde).

Anyway, the "medium" blonde I tried turned out waaaay too light, and I managed to quickly apply a "dark blonde" which got it to an okay shade, but pretty bloody close to my original brown!

I`m thinking what I`d like to try is to get to is a neutral-ash colour (it was a little too red.)

Can anyone advise me if I should go:
a) half dark neutral blonde, half medium ash blonde OR
b) half dark ash blonde, half medium neutral blonde OR
c) half dark neutral blonde, quarter medium neutral blonde, quarter medium ash blonde

(man, I hope this makes sense to someone!)

Also, how long should I wait before recolouring, as I`ll have to strip the colour again before dyeing.

Sorry if this, or something like it, has been asked a million times - I`m new to this board. (Hi!!!)

Hannah

first off, you need to wait at least a week until you dye your hair again. for you, maybe two weeks. in those two weeks, you need to conditon your hair so that it has moisture and nutrients back in it. if you dont your hair will be like straw! if your hair is fine, deep condition once a week for the two weeks, and then use a light conditioner anytime u shampoo the rest of the week. if oyu have wavy or curly hair, deep condition twice each week and then reg. condition everytime u shampoo. as for correcting your color, i would try and pick a shade lighter then what your hair is now in a cool shade, or "ash" as it will probably say on the box. if oyu must do it at home. i would much rather you go to a salon, but, whichever you decide. if doing it at home, deep condition right after you rinse the color out, like it says on the directions. then deep condition after one week if you have curly/wavy hair, or two weeks if you have fine. keep going every other week or every two weeks until the deep conditioner you get with the haircolor is gone. i hope u understand all this! lol. if not write me back and ill clarify. happy conditioning and coloring!

Hi shorty,

Thanks so much for your reply!

I`m afraid I`m going to have to do it myself - I just can`t afford it at all otherwise. But don`t worry, I get the idea: CONDITION!!

Do you have any advice on mixing the shades? I`m going to use a pre-lightener, so will it be okay to put an ash (or a neutral-ash combo) on it (given it`s too reddish now)? Also, any ideas on if it`s better to have the lighter or darker shade be neutral? Any advice (from you or others) is appreciated!

Thanks again,
Hannah

when mixing colors, i think its always best for the 2 to stay in the same intensity range. like, say if u were a light golden blonde, then you would pick a light ash color, same with medium and dark hair. medium brunnette, medium ash.you dont want the ash to be lost in the color, and you dont want your hair overly ashy. in your case, to be rid of the red, i would pick something that has a green ashyness to it.
you are very welcome,
penny

Hi Penny,

I`m just thinking of mixing a medium with a dark because I want something in between the two (I tried them separately and the first was too dark, and the other was waaaay too light). Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks for writing back!

if you want it right in between,, just mix them both together, both bottles of you have longer hair. if you have shorter hair, use only half of each bottle, and that will equal the amount of one which u would normally use. then you wont have a huge gloppy mess. :-p dont try and save the leftover haircolor. once its been exposed to air for a certain amount of time, it wont work again.
