QuoteReplyTopic: How to add to sides now? pic Posted: July 14 2007 at 5:09pm
hi, i posted earlier about how i love my 2 wefts but would like the portion near my ears to be longer.
a member nicely reccomended to possibly ad ind. strands there to make it longer to blend in better.
can anyone expert DIY'ers suggest what EASY type of extension I can do to add some length there. and will go with my welfs. and what site to get it at? I really dont want to do fusion there.
whats another easy way to install just a few indiv stands there?
or would that skin weft look good if I size it for that area?
anything? or other suggestions for my situation. I think this is small ebough I can try and fix myself. But I have never done it before, just read posts here! I would feel better about the it then.
thanks in advance.
here are the sides i want longer.

Do you have anymore wefts left? You can always add 1-4" sections to the areas you want more coverage. You can do this by using liquid Gold or the bonding tapes. It is very easy to do on your own, and once you add the hair, put a few layers in to blend it seamlessly.
not to change subject....but GSMILIE.....lady how the HECK are you?? Its been a long long time!
I agree with gsmilie, you need to add in a few short rows on the sides to minimize the difference in the length between the extensions and natural hair. Go as far foward to the hairline as possible to give you lots of hair around the front for layering.
You could use tape, LG or skin wefts would be great in this area.
You had your wefts sewn in, correct? My very first extensions were wefts sewn in and I had the same problems with the hair on the sides (mine looked worse actually). I was doing a headband, or little clips on the side as well. But it made me pretty mad that I had pretty hair I couldn't wear straight down like I wanted. So, after 2 weeks I took it out- read thru some tutorials and had my best friend LG wefts for me. She has been doing it for me now for a few months and I am much happier with the way it looks. I wanted to ask some of the girls on here that get sew ins regularly- is it typical for the sides to look that way? I wouldn't be opposed to trying that method again, but I had a good 4 or 5 inches (width wise) of hair on each side that looked ridiculous. Can't they just braid very close to the temples and sew in the weft so that doesnt happen? I was also curious about linkies... how long does that last?
My natural hair is only slightly longer layers by the ears and when she did the sew in she just extended the top weft so it longer than the bottom two levels and comes up about 2 inches past my ear towards the front of my head. That brings the hair closer to your face and fills in those sparse areas.
The only issue with that is if you like pinning it up on the sides often, you just need to kind of feel where the ridge of the weft is and pull your growing hair kind of up and over it to conceal which is easy enough if you use small clips.
I've done individuals just on my sides three different ways - with fusion, shrin***s and silicone lined micro links. All three times, I used yourhairshop's d-lux hair. The fusion was actually really easy and comfortable and lasted the longest. If you're careful with the removal, it won't damage your hair.

unless you just want to add length, when you get tracks/wefts sewn in or bonded you should go up to the crown of your head in a horseshoe pattern leaving out only enough hair around your hairline, nape and very top of your hair(imagine a very thin mowhawk) to cover the tracks. That should be about 5 or more tracks depending on whether you leave your own hair out between each track. These 2 are from doctoredlocks. These demonstrate good placements for sewn ins too: http://www.doctoredlocks.com/store/demo/extension_placement/frames.htm

well I paid maybe a bit more because I have to have it match for a reunion and wedding. and its my 1st time getting them.
i paid $200 for the custom color hair italian and $60 to install 2 tracks. Is that alot? she rents a booth so she has to make some money of me!
but cheaper people were too far or I didnt like their"vibe"
i just didnt want cheap, shedding hair that didnt really match like my friend has she bought from the beauty store. Next time, I will get cheaper hair when I dont have to go out to 2 special functions!
No- you paid a good price. I do not think that is too much at all. In fact, that's a good price for the install, for sure. How is the hair holding up for you? Your install looks great- very good color match. I see your concern about the sides. I think adding just a few small weft sections to each side will do wonders. If you use adhesive tape or liquid gold, you can do it yourself easily and quickly. Do you have any of the hair left? MSHONEY gave you a nice quick diagram to show the areas you can place the wefts. I think you'll be much happier with it if you add just a couple small rows to the sides.
the prices you've paid are pretty good. Don't go for cheaper hair unless it's the same brand or texture. I think you've found your perfect match but is that all the hair that she ordered? Did she give you your leftover hair? You can also reuse thse tracks for your next install.
This brings up another question about wefts. OKay when i got mine done she actually cut some off! I had gotten one 12 inche custom (which costs more) and 2 standard 11 inche and she cut a couple pieces off and told me to keep them and they can be added when I come back for a tightening. But they are like little pieces. One is about an inch, the other maybe 2. I was kind of thinking, damn girl, just cutting up my wefts! heheh. Maybe i didnt need that custom 12 I guess and my skull is tiny? lol

Always, Always keep what's left of your wefts!!!! If it's not on your head then you need it ALL back!!! They WILL use it on someone else AND charge them for it too!!
Krimsa, why would you need one custom color and 2 standards? If the standards matched why not use them all over?
Oh Im sorry. What I meant is weft width at the top. They were all 3 just dark brown color but the width at the top I had 2 @ 11 inches and 1 @ 12 inches. The 12 inch one was custom and cost me more and Im not sure I needed it. I did keep the ends she cut and will see if she can use them when I go back. Im not tossing this Russian hair. Its like gold.
well in my case, she measured exactly for 2 horseshoe pieces to fit exactly so there was no left over weft.
But luckily found some of the exact color and looks good enough at the beauty supply and LG'd just s bit to blend better. you cant tell the difference. only I can!
Next time if I order it, I will tell her to make it longer and give me the extra so I can fill in my own sides with the same that went on the back!
live and learn on my 1st time.....thanks

have her install all of it she should know how to do a full head of tracks and blend them with your own hair. How much does she charge per weft? BSS hair can be crappy after a couple of washes sometimes. What brand did you buy? If it's good enough you can buy that instead of custom pieces.
