QuoteReplyTopic: New hair regulations for Marine Corps females Posted: August 14 2007 at 8:05pm
Just came out today:
Women’s hairstyles are also covered. In response to a number of female Marines shaving their heads in Iraq, the board decided to define how short a woman’s hair can be. During the review process, the board received feedback from male officers who wanted women to maintain feminine hairdos to ensure “they could tell the difference between their male and female Marines.” The new regulation states women must have hair longer than a quarter-inch from the scalp.
So I'm wondering can you really tell the difference?
Well, I'm not in the military but that seems awful picky. First it has to be above the collar, now it can't be too short. (I thought everyone got buzzed at the same barber anyway but I guess not.) I guess if they need to tell the difference between their male and female marines, that must mean one gets treated differently from the other? In what way I wonder? Or do the guys just really prefer to see women that look more feminine and don't want to say so?

Females do not have to cut their hair upon entering the Marine Corps. It must be above the bottom of the collar like you said. Some Marines think there should be one standard for both sexes; some subscribe to your last statement.
I'll bet that this new policy was the result of numerous MALE complaints. I doubt it'll stand. Much as I hate buzzcuts on women, they should have the right to get them. Man, it hurts me to say that. Bob

They, women, can have buzz cuts; no shorter than 1/4 inch. They can't shave their heads. Just wanted to clear that up. Personally, I think a #2 would be short enough.
