I have seen alot of install pictures and posts and heard of blending the hair.  Does this mean cutting it (layering)?  Just how should i go about attempting this on my own?  I feel like I may need it. When I had my sew ins done the stylist didnt think i needed it.  (I have posted my before and after pics for reference on another post)  If all it means is curling the shorter pieces of hair, I am not sure that would work for me.  I would prefer to wear it in its natural curl and i dunno how to replicate that with a curling iron.

Hi KidRobot (love your handle by the way).  When Billy helped Brigid with her first install, he eventually trimmed the ends and did slight layering to blend it better.  He also slightly layered the sides to help it merge with the back of the hair and he added a few extra strands to balance.  I think there are a combination of things you can do to help it blend.

When we did Angie's install we discovered that if we flat ironed (her hair is stick straight) the sections before we added the tape sections, the wefts blended nicely.  Billy also trimmed the ends and did some slight layering...not much and her blending turned out really well.

In my humble opinion you may just need to experiment to see what works but from the photos you did an amazing job.  As far as creating the curls, have you thought about maybe rolling all the hair in rag curlers to get a consistent pattern?  That may be a lot of work though so you may not like that option.  Or possibly a wet roller set to get consistent curl?

Sherrie has a great method and demo for layering hair with a razor...but me personally...I leave it to the professionals!
