QuoteReplyTopic: Hot Rollers As Damaging As Flat Irons? Posted: September 19 2007 at 8:57am
I just found this board from a hair magazine (101 Celebrity Hairstyles) that Karen Shelton writes monthly articles for. One of her recent articles was about clip-in extensions and she showed several incredible Before/After makeovers with detailed steps. I bought a clip-in cap and loved it but then went and decided on a fusion installation by my stylist. It is my first and my stylist did OK (SoCap) but the hair is not staying as nice as it was the first two weeks. My stylist gave me some aftercare instructions but I called her a few times and I could tell she was not really enjoying my millions of questions.
I have been lurking here to find answers and reading with great interest about Brigid's hair extensions. You say that flat irons and serum will spead up the hair deterioration? Is that also true for curling irons and hot rollers? I have been using them every day to add texture to my straight extensions. I also use shine serum and hair spray. I wash my hair every day.
Based on the discussion about Bridget I am thinking maybe that is not such a good thing?

From what I understand, you're safer using hot tools with a shine serum because it protects the hair from heat. There are all kinds of shine serums. I use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny because it doesn't have alcohol.
I think the point is, any hot tools will speed up damage. HTH
I agree with Malibu there. I think ANY heat will damage hair over time and extensions even faster due to the fact that the hair is not growing from your scalp and is therefore not getting the natural oils and sebum it needs to regenerate itself. You can use the heat protectant products and you NEED to if you are heat styling daily or fairly often.
You should also not be shampooing every day while wearing hair extensions. If the hair you are wearing currently is not virgin or in a raw state, its possible that some kind of processing was done to it prior to it being installed so with every shampoo it will deteriorate further and lose sheen and become tangly and unmanageable. Very often with processed hair extensions, the hair is coated with silicone to make it look really shiny and nice when its brand new but every time you shampoo, you are removing some of this silicone layer and what is underneath is damaged unaligned cuticle. So problems with the hair become more evident. It’s also just very drying to shampoo even your natural hair every day.
