Hi my 4yr old daughter is BI-Racial(white,mom and African American Dad)..Her hair is is long and curley(the good part of her HAIR). except for a 50cent piece part in the Back that is REALLY course..right where she lays...At what age is it okay to cut a CHILD HAIR(the OLD wise tale of NEVER cut a young african american child hair cause you'll mess it up for GOOD"..Or what can be done if anything..thanks for ANY SUGGESTIONS...

DON'T CUT HER HAIR! SHe's always going to have that coarse part in the back of her head. Since she's mixed she most likely has different hair textures in her hair. The majority of it may be curly, but she may have parts that are kinky. Curly/kinky hair needs lots of TLC. Make sure you keep her hair moisturized and detangled. When you was her hair, wash it with very mild shampoo. Baby shampoo is very gentle, and if you dilute it it will be even more gentle and less drying. You could even wash her hair with just conditioner. Use a good conditioner for her hair that is free of synthetic ingredients and comb her hair while it's wet in the shower with the conditioner in it with a WIDE TOOTHED comb. Never brush her hair! Curly hair doesn't do well with brushing. Other than that, you can get some leave-in conditioner for her hair and dilute it and put it into a spray bottle and spritz it into her hair when it's getting dry. Garnier Fructis makes a good one. All in all, remember these three things
1. Comb her hair while it has conditioner in it with a wide-toothed comb
2. Never brush her hair
3. Keep her hair moisturized
P.S. If her hair is really dry, you can add a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Coconut oil to her leave-in conditioner spray and spritz some into her hair.

My suggestions in managing your daughter's hair is to keep it moisturize. First, I believe you should go to a professional who specializes in hair management. So that he/she can teach you how to manage her hair at home. Then you should find someone who knows how to braid; keep it braided for 1-2 weeks. The courseness in the back will be cornrowed or braided and all you have to do is apply moisturizers to it. Do not cut it, because the problem will reoccur when it grows back.

Get her a satin pillowcase to sleep on. Cotton pillowcases dry out your hair. This should help. Especially if you moisturize her hair at night before she goes to bed. Paying special attention to the extra dry areas of her hair. This is a routine that I also use at night. I have long hair that is curly, and natural (no chemicals).

First~ Don't cut her hair!
Second~ Cutting a child's hair or anyones hair won't mess up the persons natural texture. Once you cut it will grow back the same way.
Third~It sounds to me that your daughter has two different curly textures of hair on her head. Don't worry this is very common.
~You should try to apply deep conditoners in her hair so it can be better managed. Just put any mid conditoner in her hair with or without heat for about 30 mins.
~You should let your daughter sleep with a silk scraf or satan bonnet on her head, which you can find in most beauty supply stores.
* I suggest trying natural products because of her age. Carol's daughter and Mixed chicks are good products for curly hair.
