ya know I am not sure. But my guess is that the supertape rolls were the first of the supertape products, and as they have added more products maybe they have just introduced new products. But probably wanted to keep the original and not change anything. I will be happy when the Satin Supertape is available in the rolls!

hey kid, I just wanted to be clear.....Use a clarifying shampoo before your install, not after.  Clarifying shampoos can be very drying and can be bad for extension hair.  I use a clear shampoo, meaning see thru, not milky or creamy.  And only for the first week(i have very oily hair so I cannot go more then 2 days w/o shampooing), after that I use my hello hydration and all is good.  I don't why a week makesa difference, maybe the tapes just to 'seat' into my hair??  Anyway, just wanted to be clear so you didn't ruin your extension hair following my advice!!

Does supertape make protac?? I'm confused now.
I thought protac was lingo on the forum for a tape but one
of the local stores sells what they call "protac". I asked them if
they read the boards, they said no??

The manufacturer that makes supertape also makes Airflex tape. Airflex tape has been 'renamed' by retailers under several names, one name being protac.

Maybe the brush you are using has product build up in it and it is putting that leave-in-product throughout your hair right before you install. If you have dry hair like me, then this is very possible. I use several greasy products to make my hair soft and shiney. Don't put anything on your hair before install.....wash and clean your brush. What kind of clarifying poo are you using.....maybe it isn't getting all the oils out.....just trying to find some reason for your bad luck on installs.
Sure hope we can figure this out for you.....trial and error is what it takes for some of us...lol.....trust me, my first few weren't all that great.....

Also when I shampoo and condition my hair....I tilt my head forward and pull my bangs towards my face and wash and heavy condition the top ONLY....flip it on top.....just make sure you have sqeezed the excess water out before you do this otherwise the poo and conditioner will run down in your tape......so with this piled on top I wash and condition the back length....usually I take my clarifying poo and wash near my tapes and use my good creamy stuff for the rest. Rinse  the back holding your head back and I tilt forward to rinse the top. I've had no where near the problems I use to when I washed it all together. This works great for my tape!
Thanks,
JeepGirl

Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great!

On sunday I went ahead to try a third time with tape and LG.  Wacko I used my Pantene clarifying shampoo twice and dried my hair.  i applied the tape and LG, then used the flat iron to make sure the tape was secure to the wefts.
I had better placement this time (one good thing from all the practice!)Thumbs%20Up
Then ran the iron over the taped tracks just to make sure it was adhereing to the hair pulled over the top of the track.
It all feels secure and i keep pressing it on it from time to time just to make sure.  Now I need to get some clear (not clarifying but also not moisturizing) shampoo for when i wash it next.  I will try to wait as long as possible to wash it.  Ermm
I am so worried about it getting wet cuz that was all it took last time to get them to fall out.  I used a mix of hello hydration and water on the ends this morning just to reactivate the curl.  Im keeping my fingers crossed....

I am a hair extension specialist in Va and do a LOT of  seamless skin wefts.    I usually use a combination of tape  and  LG  and have definitely found that using a shampoo that has any type of oil in it (I have all my clients read the labels on their shampoos, conditioners, AND styling products) causes the bonds to loosen.    ' hope this info. helps  Smile

hmmmn...I had a look at the Garnier shampoo I have been using and it does have avocado oil and apricot kernel oil in it!  Shocked
So I will switch to the other shampoo I have and see if that makes a difference.  I use Hello Hydration for conditioner but I forgot to check that label for oil.  Wacko
So far the protac (no LG but i touch of latex glue to hold my double weft together) is at 10 days and holding.....yes

Hi Experts:
when you remove the tape install, do you lose a lot of hair? Is it safe for thinning or fragile hair? How does it compare with the strand by strand methods?

I've had good hair recovery with tapes after strand by strand damage. The above pics are the damage and the bottom ones are after a year of using the tape method. I've trimmed up my hair to even out the broken, uneven layers from the damage.

wow...AMM...your hair looks great...i don't know why you need extensions :)

which strand by strand did you use or did you try them all? Also, with the tape method, is it easy too remove? do you see a lot of hair in the weft when you remove it? I am thinking of trying it next.....b/c I like the way wefts give you coverage compared to strand by strand.

Thanks! My hair is very thin so I do like the added volume of extensions.

I've tried about every method of strand application I can think of. The damage caused by those pics are from microrings with the thread inside them. I've personally had good take downs with tape. I let the remover do all the work and only start to take them out after the tape's adhesive is good and broken down by the remover. I do have a hairball after wearing tape 6-8 weeks but I don't see any less thinning with my own hair. And I agree with you about the coverage with wefts.

WOW....that looks great Amm......but where the heck have you been?
Is your hair red now or is that just the lighting of the flash? Either way it is very pretty!

Welcome Home Chic!

I found the tape residue easy to remove with oil sheen. I saw a lot of hair on the tape residue and LG because it holds hair that would normally fall out from natural shedding.
