**What 8 millimetres are. (Since in my right mind, I don't think it warrants much more than that)
**Can acurately search and destroy split ends. (despite saying I had none, I had no clue what they were until I saw 50 of them yesterday)
**Does not get off on cutting frenzies, doing something the client doesn't want, etc...
** Can suggest (and direct me to procuring) hair ties that secure the hair better than these damn no-metal bands, oh they are apparently better than metal ones but not by much.
** Can actually suggest good hair products that do not feel like you're washing with whale sperm. (Die NutriVive Die) --- specific needs : fortifying and something to ensure my straight hair or almost straight stays straight.
** And give good advice, etc.

Ottawa/Hull area. And I'm not the type of person that is willing to find a good stylist by playing Russian roulette with 6 bullets. That's why I am asking. I hope I don't need to mentionit, but it should be clear that they must be hair-friendlies, not hair-enemies. One that won't suggest layers, equalizing or anything. I wish to maintain unruly length, but split ends and the damaged stuff has to go.

Now, why am I actively in need for a good dusting ?

A combination of 2 reasons.
1 being that I just passed through a hectic stressful month, and my hair could have degraded at the tips either on its own or in combination with :

2 being that since I started from a buzz three years (almost) ago I may have had inherent damage from the damn clipper. If so, most likely aggravated by this past month.

I will only take suggestions from regulars of this section, and will check past posts to see your bias. I don't need the fetishists from buzzcrew.com to answer. And new/unregistered posters, sorry, but no dice.

Kintaro

I am impressed by your optimism.

When I asked my last (ever) hairstylist to cut off a max of 0.5” – and I made myself very clear – they hacked off 3”. And I was supposed to pay for the priveledge. The justification was some mumblings about artistic expression..yeah?...ON MY HEAD??

Maybe the Ottawans are more customer-friendly than the Londoners…..

As for S&D, I didn’t think any stylists did this. It takes an hour at best – 2 hours to do a thorough job. It’s not a standard service in my experience so, if they are game, you may be paying a lot out.
Maybe I am wrong – hope so.

Sounds to me like you need a local (veteran) hair buddy who you can exchange hair-services with. Rather a trustworthy friend than a mercenary, deaf, hair-butcher any day - IMHO.

Best of luck – hope someone comes through with a tried and tested stylist. The only long-hair specialists I would contemplate using in your situation would be George Michael affiliates.

Here are the contact details of one long-hair salon in Canada (I know they are not in your area - not far tho' - but maybe they know of a LH specialist who is - and you can check out their services before going "under the knife"):

Louise Marie Longhairs Salon
580 Yonge St. Suite# 1
Toronto, Ontario.
Canada, M4Y 1Z3.
Tel. [416] 963-9995.Fax number 416-924-0375.
Email: LML@fnlonghair.com

Hope that Helps

o_O

that's awesome ..... non-salon , I would have never thought of the concept :P

Ironically I am headed to Toronto (Anime North, woohoo !) , but on unpredictable circumstances for transport (free plane if I can reserve OTT-TOR at 00:01 the day before, or I'd be taking the bus.

I do get my license soon, and will surely think of it for the summer..... Anything that could be good to stop the splitting though in the meantime ? Is Infusium worth while ? (Or is it a hunk of crap?)

And I'd go there the day before Anime North x4 next year for sure. Maybe she can help me with my quest for a grey dye too :P

Crap IMO.
Go with neat shea butter as a leave-in on the ends.

One more thing.

My hair-guru has this to say:

"Quite a few guys with really long hair ignore split ends altogether. They say that one side of the split soon breaks off and then the hair continues to dry out and soon the other side does, leaving a strand with a broken end but no traveling split. They also feel a general trimming deprives nearby unsplit and never-cut strands of their natural tapered ends, actually encouraging future splits. "

Hi Kintaro,

I'm really surprised you have difficulty getting the service you request. You once described yourself as being very tall. Use that to your advantage (if you try another salon before you get to Louise Marie's). Be very firm with the stylist. Feign anger in advance, scowl, if you must ("if you trim more than half an inch, I'm gonna be really mad!"). That oughta get the attention of anybody, even the scoundrel who would want to impose their own will onto your hair.

If the ends of your strands are long enough so that you can see then, you can search for (and trim off) any split or broken ends that you find. This will help your hair's condition immeasurably. Trusted trimmers can help you get the *shape* (blunt, or whatever) you want for your hair.

HTH, and good luck. Let us know what you do.

Well, I think it's at a point where ignoring it is toxic.

I'll be happy to go to Toronto once I am able to and have an excuse to go play BeatMania IIDX (8th Style), since as far as I know, it's the only arcade in Canada that has it (well, maybe BC has it).

I just learned I had a study week (despite only having one class) so I could take any day from then assuming i pass my driver's test. (mid-June the week, my test end may)

I just saw that, and scaring someone who actually wants to help you will end up making a mistake. Scaring someone who doesn't give a flying (6th)**** will just let them go scissor happy.
