QuoteReplyTopic: hair colour extensions help!!! *pics* Posted: December 11 2007 at 9:03pm
ok, i have always coloured my own hair... black, blue pink etc.. i can do my own foils n all that jazz, but when ever i have got extensions i have had black ones so colour match is a breeze. in about a month i am getting these...
it is virgin hair which i havnt had before. last time i bought hair it was processed and did not last at all.
but my problem is that i dnt want black this time i was a colour like this...
this is the actual product that i want to use.. it is just a permanent red colour..
but i dont want it all red, i want it something like this, but instead of the pink colour.. it will be that intence red..
im guessing it is black under the fringe , framing the face.. and then she has a blonde streak on one side...
at the moment my hair is a light brown with a few blonde bits, fairly natural but it was platnum blonde before the last colour so i have no colour buildup. my hair is quite layered and a style like this atm...
so i dont knw weather to just bleach all my head and the extensions to start from a clean canvas or if i can do it without killing my hair. the red isnt that light and it is a permanent colour so it doesnt need to be applied to blonde hair.. i was thinking of dyeing the extensions to a light brown similar to my own so then i know the red on the extensions and my hair will urn out the same shade... but to get the black hair to that colour i will have bleach it n it will go orange not light brown...
meh... dont know what i should do!! any suggestions? and going to the salon is not an option.. im a DIY girl.. i have no problem with dyeing my hair im just so confused as to how i should go about it!! oh yeh.. an then there is the blonde streak i have to do aswell!! argh!! lol

assuming you have black at the moment. try a top closure in the red color you want, along with wefted extensions under that in red and blonde, and dont color your own hair at all....
you dont need to bleach your hair to make it a good red like that - i use a permanent dye from sallys that is fantastic, but fades a bit on bleached hair. it is really good on very dark brown hair like mine though, with no bleach at all. cant help with the extensions though.
I absolutely love the look you're going for. I'd do it, too if I weren't so darn old. Here's my advice:
1. I wouldn't recommend coloring your hair with the extensions in - the color can get in the bonds and will eat away at your hair.
2. The hair you bought looks Asian. That hair is very difficult to lighten and will only go to an orange. When you re-color it, you're double processing, and the hair will not be as soft and shiny as when you bought it. You'll need lots of conditioner and a moisturizing shampoo to keep it manageable.
3. Red tends to fade very quickly. The color you're looking at, even if it's permanent, will need to be refreshed about every 2 to 3 weeks to stay bright.
I would take about half the extension hair, lighten it to a dark orange, then color it red. On your head, take a circle on the top of your head going around about an inch above your ears and color that red, too.
Then, keep half the hair black, and color the bottom half of your hair black, too.
Install the extensions, not too high on your head, though. As the color fades, you can refresh the top of your hair and maybe, carefully, the extension hair as long as you're sure to keep the color away from the bonds.
Buy some 613 blond tips from another vendor for the blond streak. That extension hair is never going to get to a platinum if it is Asian.
For those cool, bright colors, personally, I think synthetic hair is the way to go. the color doesn't fade, then.
