QuoteReplyTopic: color question- please help I need opinions- Posted: December 14 2007 at 8:36am
I am currently all dark brown. I will try to attach pics. I am thinking of highlights, in the top layers only. Any suggestions?
I don't want a high maintenance thing- the extensions are enough! Something subtle, maybe??? I like the all dark, but think it looks a little "hard" opinions, please.
I am a hairdresser, and on people with your natural hair color I think that carmel or honey colored highlights look awesome.
Anytime you lighten the natural hair a few shades, there will be grow out issues. If you want to avoid that, use just a few chuncky highlights in the crown and when you have the root retouch done, have the stylist try to select the same chunks, or else you may become progressively lighter which each highlight.
Bangs are totally in, have you seen Katie Holmes new 'do? - adorable!! I'm trying to muster up the guts to do it, they're a little bit of a pain tho, just because they need to be trimmed every two weeks or so to keep em looking the same... I love your color now (it's what I tried to acheive recently but mine went kind of coppery- ick!) but I totally agree with matalgirl, if you do want highlights do some pretty caramel-y ones, that would look great on you!
Chels =)

Thanks for the advice. I am going to mull it over and maybe do something next week.
My mom owned a salon for over 20 years and just sold it and retired. The color I used on my hair to get this nice rich chocolate was some stuff from wal- mart- I think I used Natural Instincts at first and then some Loreal- always medium brown. I have to time it carefully, though because after 8-10 minutes or I go almost black. My hair is really pourous. I thnk they now make a color especially for dark hair- maybe this will aleviate the orange if you are trying to go dark. This is actually pretty close tomy natural color, although I have not seen that in so long, I am guessing.
My extensions actually match perfectly. I get hair in color #4 medium rich brown. I did not have to mess with the color at all. It sure made it more easy. When I had several shades in my hair- blonde, lt brown, dk brown, man, it was hard to blend the extensions in.
This has made life easier.
I really appreciate the input-
hey METALGIRL- I read your posts about clip-ins a few years back... I am hooked on them now. Love that I can wear them or not. My own hair is actually abit longer than the extensions now, so it is not a drastic change, but they give me the glamour-full look I love. The next thing I need to do is cut my own hair a bit or order new hair. Think I am up for a good trim at this point :)

ps- I LOVE katie holmes new hair... wow- just gorgeous. I just cannot bring myself to go back to short. I have been waiting so long for my own hair to finally match the length of the extensions. I had short hair for years... Katie's hair certainly suits her. Gone is the little gilr look.
