On the facial hair post, im 13 and i had this one long chin hair. And i was lightly pulling it one day and i pulled it out. I was pretty sad, but it grew back longer and 2 other long hairs grew with it. And the same with sideburns. So i would definatly suggest u cut off the beard if u can stand it, but dont do it with mustaches.....

When I was in the growing facial hair stage (around 16) my barber would shape out the sides the key is after shapeups or cuts don't cut your facial hair for about 2 months because by then all the new facial hair growth wil be set in and then you go to the barber and the sides will get longer until they eventually connect with your beard. As for the beard I would stick with everybody else and just keep cutting it by the time your sides are long enough you should be able to connect to your beardand then after that it's just routine shapeups.
