Hello, I'm new here, with some questions Smile...

I have naturally jet black hair and I've dyed my hair many different colors.....platinum blonde, honey blonde, light brown, dark brown, bright red, dark red, pink, blue - all different colors.

I haven't colored my hair in awhile though so my hair is back to its original color, black.

I get my hair straightened though with the Japanese Straightener (Thermal Reconditioner). And now, I really want chunky highlights done, starting from around my face (I'm thinking I want 6 chunky highlights in all, 3 on each side of my head). They don't have to be blonde, just a contrasting enough color on my black hair to give me that super dramatic look.

Will it trash my hair to get the highlights done though? My hair is in pretty good condition, even though I chemically straighten it. I just don't want to totally fry it with the highlights. Also, what would be a contrasting color to do on my hair? Like a caramel color??

Any info would be so appreciated and sorry this is so long! Here are some pix of how I want my highlights:

Hello SugarSparkles,

I will advise you based on my own expierence.  It's never a good idea to bleach chemically straightened hair, however it is doable.  Like yours, my hair is thermally reconditioned and I have added highlights to them in the past.  If you do get it done though, in order to keep your hair healthy I recommend you treat your hair with a deep hydrating treatment weekly (for example a Kérastase masque that best suits your hair type - Age Recharge is a really good one) and get frequent trims as your hair will most likely develop a lot of split ends.

As for color, I recommend you start with the caramel until you get used to the contrast.  If after that you feel you want to go lighter, do so.

Hope this helps and good luck!

It totally does help, thank you so much for the info arcanjo! I do regular deep conditioning and protein treatments, so I'll definitely keep this up after the highlights.

By the way, are you happy with your TR? What shampoo & conditioner do you use? I use Redken, but I'm always looking out for what other people use for their TR'd hair.

Anyway, thanks SO much again Smile!
