I used to go to cheap salons (can't afford anything better at this point). The last time I went the crazy lady who cut my hair totally screwed it up. I showed her a picture of a girl with like a really cute bob. The woman went scissor happy and made my hair look like.... I don't know how to even describe it. There were layers EVERYWHERE (the photos I showed her had absolutely no layers), the hairs on the top of my head were only about 2" long.
I was horrified for months till it finally grew out. But anyway... that was years ago and it was such a traumatic experience that I haven't allowed anyone to cut my hair since. I'll get an occasional trim, but I have my sister do it since it's simple to just cut hair straight. I've had long hair for a few years, but with all the damage due to excessive dyeing (horrible idea), I've had to cut it frequently.
Yesterday I had my sister cut it slightly past my shoulders.

But anyway... I haven't had bangs in years either and I was thinking about getting a side sweeping fringe. They look really cute and I think it would look okay on my hair, but I don't know how to do it. I've cut my own bangs a million times but now I'd like to figure out how to do a side sweeping fringe cuz it would probably look way cuter (on my round-ish face) than just straight bangs.
I know that it would be best to have a professional do it, but I'm a college student and don't have the money to waste on hair salons... I also don't want to go to a salon and pay someone to screw it up in case it would happena gain.

Does anyone know how to cut a side sweeping fringe? I'd need detailed instructions so I don't mess it up.
That would be really awesome, thanks!

You do not need a pro at alllll. If you can cut straight bangs, your set. It's basically the same thing, however you cut on an angle (framing your face, changes depending on which side you want it.) Do it in stages and always a bit longer than you think so you can adjust, otherwise you might end up with it far too short.

I do mine in between cuts as they grow out fast. It's easy-peasy. Have fun.

Thanks! I hung out with a girl who knows a lot about doing hair (she's going to school for that) and she has a side sweeping fringe. I didn't want to ask her to do it for me right there in front of people, but I did look at hers and it looks pretty simple. I'll try and do it gradually just so it doesn't end up being too short.

Go to You Tube and type in something about bangs. I've seen some videos of girls giving each other similar bang trims...also there are lots of how-to videos that would demonstrate the technique for you.

I should have thought about the video thing, but for some reason I didn't. I did find a really good website that explains how to do a lot of different hair styles, so I used those photos/instructions as a model. I did it a couple of weeks ago and it doesn't look that bad. I guess it's pretty much the same as trimming bangs, you just have to figure out how to style it with product to make it stay in place as a side sweep.
My hair is out of control so it doesn't stay in place for a very long time, but I'll just have to use more product (which is unfortunate since that makes my hair oily fairly quickly).
Oh well, I'm not disappointed with the results and I cut them long enough so I can easily regrow them back.

Thanks everyone!
