QuoteReplyTopic: Dumped, and in need of a new image. Posted: August 22 2002 at 12:40pm
Hi, first time posting here. I`ve recently been dumped, and I`ve got to a point In my life where I`d really like to change the way I look.
At the moment, I have light brown/reddish hair down to my shoulders with a very slight wave in it. It`s pretty much been the same for years apart from the odd dye job, and now I`m getting terribly bored of it. And I`d like some suggestions. I`m a little scared of cutting too much, as I`m concious about the way I look (I think have big ears :))
Any experts here that can help? I have photos, but haven`t got the slightest clue how to get them up here.
or search @ hairboutique.com for Edgy Short Styles For Women & Men - Year 2000.
Another great styles to go for is to get layers or get a really chunky cut. Usually, chunky cut or edgy short style/shag will hide big ears. And plus if you get highlights and stuff like that, it`ll look even more fabulous. Hope this helps!
I know how you must be feeling.....I`ve been there - many times. But unless you would have been changing your hair regardless of whether you were dating this guy or not. Don`t do it. I have gone out and done something drastic after a breakup, only to regret it later.
If you did plan on changing it, then take it slow. Maybe have some fun with color , chunky layers and long bangs.
Take care and remember - whoever this guy was, he fell for you the way you are - and you should never change the way you look for anyone but yourself. My humble opinion.

Trish: Don`t think that would suit me, thanks for your help though.
Hairalways: I definatley want to do something new, I`m just not sure what though.
Is there anywhere on the web where I can overlay different hairstyles on my picture to see what I`d look like? I`ve seen some programs that can do it but the results always seem to look a bit weird.
How much time do you send on you hair each day... how much are you willing to spend? That is very important when picking a new style. If you are a wash and go type person you should look for that type style. On most days how do you wear your hair?
Amy, sorry about the breakup but I agree with most replies. Don`t go out and cut your hair just for a change. This speaking from a male and you could consider hair extensions. When changing hair , doesn`t mean you have to go out and cut it off. You could consider going longer, I know me personally just adore ladies with very long hair. Also I am single, so if you would like to chat, please feel free to write to me by e-mail or by msn messenger: garyfor3@hotmail.com I`m 27 and single and would love to chat with ya but please don`t do anything drastic. I would love to hear from you!! Gary

I`m another one who votes for going longer. If you don`t like it you can always cut it. But, if you go shorter and want to grow it back out you`ll have those awkward growing out stages to go through. Plus there are a lot of things that can be done with long hair.

What styles have you had in the past and which ones did you like? Do you have bangs or layers? If not currently have you had either of them before? Is your current style cut straight accross (blunt) or does it have a U or a V shape?
Is your color bothering you at all? You said it was an odd dye job, maybe treat yourself to a salon visit and get it evened up or something?
At th moment, i`m growing out some layers but for the most part, i have a shoulder length cut.
In fact, i had long hair for most of my life, but over the last few years i have gone progressivley shorter. Mainly due to how hard it was to maintain such long hair.
Im still not sure what to do with myself. I`ve wondered about going curly, I had a flatmate with the most fantastic curly hair. but im not sure how that would suit me. proabably really badly.

I know exactly how u feel - I am in the same boat as you - only that in addition to being dumped, the guy refuses to move out of my life and continues calling up everyday cos " I am the closest friend he has" - I guess till he finds another "close friend" I will have to suffer him being there and yet not being there. As for changing your looks, I`d agree with the rest of them - don`t do anything drastic - maybe a colour job is what would change the way you look - I agree too with the shag idea posted earlier - I don`t know the shape of your face but if it suits you go ahead. I also envy the fact that you have long hair - I somehow tend to think that "long hair" women are simply more idealistic, more romantic( Hey don`t hate me you short haired gals - to me short hair is business like and smart - it also depends on the face - I guess Winona Ryder wldn`t look half as nice with long hair) Been trying to grow my hair for some time now but have been ill for the last couple of years so I guess its not the best of times for it to grow as I would like it to - currently its just slightly below the shoulders but wavy so it looks shorter than what it really is. (BTW anyone got any ideas on what I can do to make my hair healthier and grow faster).
I know this is a rambling mail but I just felt like writing to you knowing how it feels - keep the spirits up sweetie, add some wispy layers, or go in for an exotic shade - Go out and WOW them - I am sure the right man is waiting round the corner!!!
Cheers!
Happy "hairday"

Well you seem to have lots of good advice given to you. Are you really tired of your look? I`m questioning this because your first comment was you were dumped and then you said you are tired of your look. I went out with someone for three years even had some talk about getting married but during those three years this guy wanted me to dye my hair, cut it etc never once encourage me to grow it longer as I mentioned I wanted to many times. For one split second when we broke up I thought of cutting it shorter but came to my senses quickly.
Today I have another boyfriend who loves my long hair and the first question he asked me was if I was planning to grow it longer and how long and yet he isn`t someone who desire women with long hair but realize that it was important to me. Now my hair is sort of of an identity for people when they search for me at the dances etc. lol
My point is maybe your past peepsqueek didn`t appreciate your looks and just maybe you feel that you should have change but be sure of your feelings where they are coming from because Mr. Right is around the corner and he will love you the way you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very well spoken Diane. You are absolutely right!! Can`t let someone how to dictate on how you wear your hair. Soo glad you didn`t cave in and cut yours. Personally, I have to admit and say I adore women with long hair than those who cut it and keep it short and never try to grow it out. Just my oppion, but long hair is the way to go. Spoken from a male who just loves long hair on women. Gary
