I use upholstry thread because it is stronger and tangles less as you sew.  If you are poking your fingers perhaps a thimble may help?

I have been sewing clothes for myself and such for 25 years now and I still even draw blood sometimes too!  Just go slowly and becareful.

I sew my own as well. I sew single wefts onto a weave net, so they aren't bulky and are still undetectable in your hair. You could also try sewing them on stocking-type material or lace. You'd be surprised how well this works and they last for ages!

I hope you can see this. This is a weaving net used for sew-in weaves. I buy mine off Ebay --- search for 'weaving net.'

Yes I can see it, but how do you use that for clip in wefts?? Do you cut the cap in half or what? Thanks for helping. I appreciate it so much.

Hi Fakeizme...
When using a weaving net all the hair has to be put away under the cap, right?

Oh, I'm sorry, I know I probably sound waaay confusing!! LOL.

What I mean by using the net is not to use it exactly like how it's used in a sew-in. What I do is cut the square block of net you get in the package. I cut, say, a 11" x 2" piece and start with that; sewing a weft onto it. Then, I sew another weft on top of it. I'm going to see if I can find a pic that I took of it while I was doing it....be right back

http://public.fotki.com/clipinqueen/messing-with-hair/3cbf0c90.html ---- hope this comes through.  Here's another with it finished:

Once you put these pieces into your hair (at the partline, so it is covered by your natural hair) you can't see them.

so how many wefts do you put on that one piece of netting?? /And do you just make the weft rows all the same length across from end to end???

Generally yes, the weft rows would be all the same length, unless you want it tapering to your nape. Normally, I put three wefts to one piece of netting, but it depends on the thickness of the hair you're using. I know it sounds goofy, like the netting will stick out or something, But you would be amazed at how well it is covered and undetectable. What's great is if it comes out too big, you can just trim the piece yourself!

Here's a photo of how to use the net or any lace to do sew in clips. Put a light layer of adhesive (like Liquid Gold) onto the material and lay it straight across the weft. Place something heavy on it so it dries straight and even. Then sew the clips right into it. Works like a charm.

I actually sew clips on it after the wefts are sewin onto the netting. Very similar to how Amm's got her's attached. I don't use LG though.

Amm, yours are so neat and pretty! You're making me look bad. LOL They are fantastic. I've never used lace, but I can see how it would be very effective. Great to know others are doing this as well --- and professionals at that, who actually know what they're doing!!!LOL
