QuoteReplyTopic: Is is okay to mix 100% Protein into a relaxer? Posted: March 16 2008 at 11:54pm
A friend told me that mixing Jheri Redding 100% Natural Protein Conditioner into a relaxer is beneficial to the hair and her beautician mixes this in relaxers before she applies it to her clients' hair. I bought a bottle today and it is a dark brown mix that smells similiar to soy sauce and is sold at Sally Beauty Supply Store. I would like to know if anyone has ever heard of this and how true this is before I mix this with my relaxer. I would like to know advantages and disadvantages, if any.

Mmmm there was one member on LHCF that mixed Keratin (this is a protein) in with her relaxers but that it is more like texlaxing cuz it takes away the strength of the relaxer....you may want to search on LHCF before experimenting HTH
ETA: Btw that members hair was gorgeous!

I am still skeptical since I don't know too many people that have ever heard of this, and just like Lafemmenoir said, "Don't think of playing mad scientist with any chemical you put on your hair".
Since I had already purchased the bottle, last night when I washed my hair, I poured about a tablespoon of the Jheri Redding protein conditioner into my normal conditioner, since the Jheri Redding is pure liquid just like soy sauce. I figured this wouldn't be a problem since they were both conditioners. To my surprise, my hair came out feeling and looking healthy! I think I am going to continue doing this, but again, I'm still skeptical about mixing this with my relaxer. If I can get more people to confirm this, I MAY try mixing it in my relaxer. But, I will also check out LHCF to see if I find anything.
