QuoteReplyTopic: Need color help PLEASE Posted: April 04 2008 at 6:54pm
Hi I am new at this site. I was needing some help with one of my clients color and wanted to see if anyone could help me.
I am usually good with blondes but this one has me stumped. She previously goes to some one else for her color, and i do her cuts. I finally talked her into letting me do it. Her natural is about a 3 level and she has been colored blonde over and over so she has white ends and yellow from newgrowth to mid shaft. She has about 1/2 inch new growth showing. She wants to go back darker about a 6 or 7 level brown with blonde highlights, to try to avoid getting color so often. I dont want her to be ashy or have red tones. I would like to stick to redken but if anyone has any suggestions im open to them. Please Help. Thank you Kaylee

couldn't you do a tint back with shades eq? i have a book that tells you how to do that.....you probably already know....but what you do if you are going 2 shades darker (which you are) is use the shades to tint back and then put your new color on. i hope this helps...sometimes i am not good at explaining. there are some hair wizzards on this board.

If you want very specific advice and you are a professional hair colorist, you should sign up at behindthechair.com. This is a forum for at home hair coloring so you probably know more than us about that specific line.

If you are saying your clients natural colour is a level 3 this would make it dark brown am I right. if she want to go to a level 6 or 7 then you will need to lighten her natural colour with a 10 or you could apply a 5 light brown. As for the hi lites, I would apply bleach to the root ( new growth only, leaving the middle lengths and ends out of the foil, then apply a toner 8 or 9 with a ash tone to even out the hi lighted areas. This is only what I would advise for my clients. Maybe some other stylist on the site will give you another way to do it, as there is more than one way to do this.
