QuoteReplyTopic: Is this safe? Posted: April 08 2008 at 1:43pm
I bleached my whole head a little over 6 months ago. It came out horrible and since then I canned the whole platinum blonde idea...and I've been using Natural Instincts in a chestnut brown so it's now pretty dark. It is safe to try to dye (no bleach) my hair back to dark blonde/light brown or is it too soon. If I can...what color should I use?

you would need to remove the semi perm color, then apply neutral protein filler, leave it on for 20 min, do not rinse out, then apply your new color....do you want to go with a permanent color? if so i would recommend loreal professional colors from sallys....you can also get demi perm colors at sallys. just ask in at sallys what would be the best product to remove the natural instincts.
happy coloring

Try Color Oops or Color Fix. The former is available at most drug stores. They also have some product at Sallys called Satin Hair Color Remover. These are dye solvents. They shrink the artificial dye molecules in your hair temporarily so that they can be rinsed out. You have to follow the directions exactly to remove color though, especially rinsing for a very long time. Then, use a demi or semi with a golden tone in a color lighter than you want to achieve. Using a protein filler first is a good idea as well. I would try a medium blonde to get dark blonde as the color comes out darker on hair that has been treated with color remover.

I just wanted to add that your roots are going to be darker than the rest since you have six months of regrowth. Just be aware of this. It will probably look alright after toning with a medium blond color since roots tend to be darker than the rest of the hair anyway and the ends will absorb color a bit more than the roots since they are more porous. If it looks too uneven when you are done (for example, if there is a real noticeable line of demarcation), I would try getting some highlights added professionally to break it up.
Thank you both for the info!!....my friend is coming over Sat to help me with all this.
And yes I want to go with a permanent color...the only reason I went with the Natural Instincts is because I was scared I would totally fry my hair if I went permanent after the bleaching...never doing that again!

It's not really necessary to go with a permanent. Since your hair has already been lightened, a semi or demi should be relatively permanent anyways, given the condition of your hair. A permanent is used when you want to lighten virgin hair a level or more. Since your hair is already lightened, you are just putting it through extra unnecessary stress and damage by using a permanent.

I just wanted to say that I'm glad u won't be bleaching anymore. That stuff is bad for yr hair.Good luck on whatever u choose to do.I did the same thing about using Natural Instincts.I used it for 2 months so I wouldn't ruin my hair. Now I'm back to my permament hair color now.If u do use a permament color.I'd try ION Color Brilliance at Sally's.I love that stuff. It's not damaging.Plus,it has low amonuia.Which, I can't spell, lol! I hope this finds u well.Good luck, hun! :)
