Has anyone had success coloring keratip extensions?

I have a bunch of blonde, but now that i'm a redhead again I'm considering using the same haircolor as on my own hair on the blonde extensions (before I install).  I'm trying to figure out how to color them without damaging the tips...any ideas?

I've colored a few tips in the past and I just placed them on a plastic cutting board, covered in foil, and brushed the color onto the hair with the tips sticking out at the top.
I don't know about getting the color right up into the tip though. I didn't.  My tips were dark and I was going lighter so I didn't mind the tips being a bit dark.
Anyway, using a brush to put the color on is a lot less messy than just slathering it on .
From being a blonde to red... How do you like it? I love red!

I actually was red, then bleached it out to go blonde, then covered all but large panels on the top and left the panels blonde with the rest jet black...now i'm back to red.  :)

I have a short attention span and sometimes my hair takes the brunt of it LOL.  Thank goodness for good products because I do things to my own hair that i would never dream of doing to anyone elses...because i know better!  Red seems to be the color that most people compliment me on that it is great with my skin tone but blonde was the one that gets the most, ahem "attention" overall.  :)

I'm glad to hear what you've done w/the tips before, thanks.  It's along the lines of what I was thinking...wish me luck!!!  I'm at the beginning of a new extension extravaganza!

*Update*

I colored last night and it's tricky with the tips to make them all behave while applying color so not a technically impressive process, but it worked.  LOL  Some color got onto the tips which I don't think will be a problem but I'll know once I install tonight.  Worst case I'll cut the tips off and install those pieces w/keratin chips.

Filled the blonde extensions w/a red semi-perm color wiped that off and applied the same color (dark auburn) that I used on my hair over it.  Looks good so far.  I think I'll probably have to invest in color conditioner to use 2-3 times a week to keep the red in but that's par for the course w/red regardless.  I'll provide hair porn when I'm finished.  Tongue

I don't expect this hair to hold up the 10 weeks of wear but it'll probably be good for at least 6-8.
