well, the only thing i am able to reply about is the damage caused by a straightening iron. there was a time when i was using a straight. iron every other day, however i never seemed to see any damage. it all depends on the original texture of your hair (it will take more work to straighten very curly hair) and how much time you leave the iron on each section of hair. i just ran the iron over each section to smooth it and it really helped to cut down on frizz. Keep in mind though that i have talked to people who used a straightening iron and it totally dried out their hair. i have also tried something that you mentioned: bobby pinning the hair down to your head, don`t worry- didnt work for me either:)

well if you put a chemical relaxer on a healthy hair no problems should rise. but if your hair is damaged( colour, blowdry, heat .....) it will break not fall off. My hair became brittle after a relaxed it. But its because i relaxed it like 4 times. Heat every day will dry your hair unless you use a heat protecting product. Still hair need s to be rest to recupurate. If you like to deep condition you hair twice a day the iron it every day is ok

Keep in mind that if you do a decent job with the blowdryer, it will last several days. Maybe just a quick blowdryer touch up in the mornings.
