A week ago, I was nearly ready to get rid of my hair! I'm back on firm earth for now...
Anyway....
I wash my hair when I get a chance - never know when that will be so sometimes I wash it once a week - or once in a week and a half or up to three times a week.
To do a cold water rinse and avoid getting BRRRR's, I switched to the tub faucet, and place the length of the hair in the cold running faucet water...
I towel wrap it to get the drips out - then let it air dry. I never comb my hair - I wait until it is dry to get the tangles out. I guess I don't understand why I should work on tangles when my hair is at its weakest (wet).
In the past I oiled my hair - with the reminder - I just started using jojoba oil again. Picked some up for USD$14.20/lb. in the bulk department at a natural food co-op and then got my 5% off member's discount at checkout.
Right now, I've been using Burt's Bees hair soap and Burt's Bees Avocado Butter.
I've ordered Artec Smoothing shampoo/conditioner on sale.
I have lots of short hairs trying to grow back (baby pulls my hair out) - and annoying growing out short gray/weird black hairs, also.
Worst thing is that I've been wearing my hair in an unflattering ponytail for nearly a year....this to keep my baby some what out of it. I'm hoping to learn how to braid my hair so that will offer more styles while keeping it protected from baby.
Has anyone tried trimming their length with the accuredge clip? Is $20 worth it to get the accuredge clip or are they sold separately from the Sunbeam kit?
Hi! I wish I could help you but I don't have any kids... Maybe you should wear it in a bun more often? I know that'd get boring, and it isn't always easy to get a bun to stay. Never mind doing it when it's wet! Yikes!
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love your screenname!

Oh wait... you mentioned about wanting to learn more about braiding. Me too! I can braid, but not well enough yet that I'd wear them out of the house...
But these websites have great instructions. Better than any published book I've found!
Thanks so much. I just found that braiding site last week....I can put my hair in a pony tail holder, then bring it around and braid while looking in the mirror!
I was eyeing that Conair braiding thingie, updated for 2003, but it seems I'd be better off just struggling to learn how to do my own.

i'm sorry i can't be much help. the only thing i know is when my cousin had her baby she would but it in a low braid, a ponytail or twist it up in a clip. she had the little strands where skyler[her baby] would pull. my cousin got some brarettes and hold them back. my cousin's hair is very long and thick. she didn't cut it. she just did like i said above. when i would hold him i would put my hair in a ponytail. sorry again i couldn't be more help.
I have 2 young ones - ages 6 and 3. Unfortunately, I don't have long hair but my girls do. This site has helped me to take better care of their hair. For instance, when shampooing them, I used to pile all the hair on top of their heads and scrub (Ack!). Now I know better.
I don't have much helpful advice to offer right now. But eventually your little one will have fun learning to braid your hair. My 6-year old braids my 3-year old's hair now. I think that's special. Hopefully that will be something enjoyable for you and your baby to share - grooming one another - I think it's a very loving gesture to comb, brush and style someone else's hair and to have them be able to do the same for you.

So Caramia, do you have long hair yourself? That's very sweet that you want to help your young daughters. And how cute they must be when the older is braiding the hair of the younger.
LetGoOfMommysHair... I love your nickname. Glad to hear you're back on terra firma once again. Sounds like your haircare regimen is excellent. What may seem to you to be an "unflattering" ponytail is surely more flattering than a bob, at least in my opinion.

I have five, my youngest (my daughter) is now 6 years old. Ah, I remember well and cherish those memories. My youngest son as a baby would hold onto one of my braids as a security thing whenever I was holding him. It lastest until he was too big to hold. It didn't bother me because there is strength in numbers, but if someone catches a strand or two... youch!!
Most always I have worn my hair up in a french braid, or two french braids. Then when I wore it down it would be soft and wavy.
Little hands of a baby are like little sticker bushes and they hang on! So my hair was up from day one.
Thank you for reminding me of those precious days. wittils
Precious is the day... it happens only once in a lifetime.
Thank *you* for the reminder that I will get through this! He is going to be walking soon...so I must remember to cherish holding this huge guy in my arms (well usually with a sling cuz he's so big).
In swim classes (non-clorinated pool), if my hair isn't close enough, he pulls on the front of my bathing suit top! LOL! I'm glad I bought a size small, otherwise we'd be flashing everyone. We only do that when he nurses in the pool!
Braiding would definitely help me...but I never learned how to do my own hair. With a pony tail, he is good at grabbing at the crown to get the hair out of the pony. Also, he often grabs a good 6 or so strands and pulls them OUT.
Thanks again for sharing!

How about dads with long hair and kids ? It's not that off as a tangent, and moms can continue to speak freely..... any of them here ?
I might suffer this same fate of joy ( :P ) .... in about 10 years or so, but still.... kids + loose hair = danger :P
I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation.

Ah yes... I see a lot of daddy's with their hair tied back too. Babies go for it and you just have to be one step ahead of the game.
Kintaro, how do you wear you hair these days? I'm just curious. My son is growing his hair out and it's at that stage where a person needs the most patience. He's patient.
My husband's hair is mid-back and he wears it mostly tied back, but sometimes he wears it in a knot at the nape of his neck, and sometimes it is half up.
I've seen some men with very long hair that is in a tail but they have it tied off every few inches.
Babies are a joy, and life is never the same!!!
