Good Morning Ladies!

I have never had my base color dyed along with blonde highlights.
My base is darker than the highlights and I need a retouch soon.

I know the stylist will do the base and alternate with the highlights within visits; but how does she do the base color without dying over my blonde
highlights?

Since this is a retouch?

Have a Great Day!
Vicki

It's very good that you are questioning this process now!

Let me say this, I used to have a base colour with highlights (did myself) --- very difficult. Actually, it depends what she will be using on your base colour; is it a lifting colour to lighten your base? Or is it a deposit colour to darken your base? It's easier if it's a lightening colour (not ash) because it won't likely affect your highlights much and can sometimes be a nice refresher for your highlights. If it's depositing, she really has to watch, pick out and foil up your highlights to get them out of the way.

Make SURE she knows that you don't want bleach to be run all down the highlights again --- just touchup at roots. No cap; foils, so she must pick out all your highlights section by section and cover them with conditioner/foil as she goes along. She can do it all (base colour and bleach touchup all at once) but it can be trickier. If she doesn't do this, then what she will do is go the lazy way and just pick randon pieces to highlight whether they have been highlighted before or not. If she does this, then you may notice yourself getting blonder and blonder. Then she'll have to go and do lowlights at some point! Good luck!Tongue
Love clip-ins and tape!

Hi Vicki,

The magic of foils. Your stylist will put your blonde section in foils after apply colour/bleach to your roots. Then apply your base colour in between the foils and over the middle lengths and ends of your hair.

She will then wash off your base colour first, to avoid the base colour running into the blonde, then she will remove the foils and shampoo as normal.

I hope this has answered your question, let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Will let you know when I get it down again. Seems impossible to be able to put all the highlights in foil. But I guess that is what they get paid for. I could never do this myself.
