I like to use   upholstery thread for sewing in wefts.  I prefer it over the cotton thread since I think it is stronger and tangles up less when you are sewing.  You can get it at any fabric store.

Thank you, I have heard about using upholstery thread but I didn't know which brand or where to get it. I will try a local fabric store. Thanks!!

USE BUTTON THREAD IT DOESN'T STRETCH LIKE UPHOLSTERY THREAD. WAL-MART SELLS IT
UPHOLSTERY THREAD DOES WORK WELL FOR SEWING IN WEAVES, AND BUTTON THREAD WORKS THE BEST FOR MAKING WEFTS.

I also hear that cotton covered polyester thread is a good way to go. Is this the same type as mentioned above?

Yes, cotton covered polyester is what I use for weaves. That's what button thread is. Cotton by it's self isn't strong enough. I've read the cotton coating is suppose to be more gentle on the hair.
