QuoteReplyTopic: Blending Gents Hair Posted: June 06 2008 at 4:09pm
Hi all,
I am a hairstylist and I trained to cut and colour womans hair. I self taught myself doing gents, kids and hubby great models, lol.
My question is what is the best way to blend gents hair, ie with clippers, scissor over comb or and thinning scissors. I find it a little difficult to get rid of scissor lines especially on gentlemen with dark coloured hair.
Well, you know I'm no pro. All I can tell you is what I've learned cutting my own husband's hair, so this may be of limited help, but no pros are responding so here I go! If I hold the scissors pointing upwards and cut each vertical section the exact same length, I don't get scissor lines. It does require a lot of concentration to make sure every cut is identical, especially since his hair is straight uneven cuts would show up. Cutting across is what gives me problems. Clippers are great if they want pretty short hair, no uneven parts there. I haven't tried thinning shears.

Thanks a million for your reply, I understand what you mean, its basically a uniformed layer. What I find is when using clippers say number 2 at the back and sides, then cutting the hair from the crown to the front of the head with my scissors, its blending the back and sides evenly to avoid scissor lines, I usually manage this with my scissor over comb, and then using my thinning scissors. I find the best way to do this is by pushing my comb right into the head and following the contour of the gents head, but I find most of them complain I am hurting them
