QuoteReplyTopic: Violet base colors? Posted: June 16 2008 at 8:43pm
Hi there, I'm brand new to the forum.
I have a problem: I went to a new hair stylist, who told me that my current at-home color (L'Oreal Excellence in Medium Brown from Sally's) was a GREEN base shade. She said that green is common in haircolor for resistant grey coverage, and that I need to find a color that has a VIOLET base. I went to Sally's and neither of the young women there knew anything about hair color! Many or all of the shades I saw that did have a violet base listing were ash shades - I've always heard you shouldn't use ash to try to cover gray. Is this right - violet base equals ash? I've used this same brand and shade for many, many years; always thought my hair was golden brown in appearance. Now I'm so self-conscious about this alleged green tint that I've been walking around with!
Can anyone help me understand all of this? I can't afford to have my hair colored professionally.
Hmm.. I've used Med. Brown on my mom who has alot of gray, and it covered hers up, and there was nothing green about it o.O But I've never heard that.. I'm not a color expert anyway.. But that's weird.
