QuoteReplyTopic: It's Hott! My glue is melting... Posted: June 23 2008 at 9:04am
Ladies,
OMG! Boy has it been hot. And going dancing with my man ain't no help either!
My glue keeps melting....during the weekend I had to touch up everyday!
The only glue that did not bulge was my nape and Vapon!
Ladies we really need to experiment. Are there any scientists on board?
I would like to know how can I use vapon around my entire perimeter, but not have the shine. there has to be some type of ingredient that can be used to make that shine disappear!
By the way, I have ORWG, Davlyn and even proflex no shine(None working good)
But my blueliner and vapon are true survivors.
Somebody please help. And I do not wear makeup so this is out! and pressing with your finger does not help the shine disappear either! Somebody somewhere went through this and found a way! Please share! It too darn hot for this everyday!

^^^Okay Lisa. Although I've never had any problems mixing adhesives I do understand your concern because I remember reading an advisory against doing that - I think it was on the true tape website but I'm not sure.
One thing is for sure, you won't have to worry about your braids lifting in the heat.

when its hot that's exactly when i mix b/c it takes everything you got to make it work.. mostly i stay away from the arcylics b/c they melt the fastest.. i might use a thin base of aracylics, and then go to the white glues for a couple of thin layers.. and TAPE EVERYWHERE! except at the top front hairline..

Well last night it slipped again. Boy am I getting angry here!
So this morning, I mixed and hope this works out. I put on ORWG and then a layer of vapon! Yes there is a bit of shine, but I bought some fabric pens from the craft store and kinda blotted the shine and its gone. Hope the fabric pen don't hurt my skin, but it worked. Well let's see how it does by end of day!
I really need to speak to the inventor of Vapon. If He/she could work on a no-shine Vapon. Im a customer for life!
I have been applying with just Proflex No Shine tape and I am getting my unit to hold for 5 to 6 days. So far I love it especially the clean up. It is so hot that everything just stopped holding after about day 3.
This heat is a bear. I don't think anybody sweats more than me and I don't have a problem. I load trucks for ups and my glue still holds for a week. I wear a headband while I'm at work. I take a few extra steps with my application in the summer. I clean my perimeter twice with 99% alcohol and then I apply the scalp protector. 2 layers of super tape, 1 layer of hair direct white glue, & another layer of super tape. I top it off with proflex-no shine tape. It works for me.
i edited this post to say I do the ups thing on weekends. I do hair during the week. After all the sweating I do on the weekend, my hai is still good for the week. When I take extra care with my scalp preparation, I have a better hold.

I've tried different layers of the tape/glue combo. I'm experimenting with each app. Right now, I'm doing Super Tape and 2 layers of HDWA (less than 5 days before lift in this heat). Endura Bond works in my little areas (temple/sideburn area). Vapon slid off me like melting wax. My question: do you think too many layers also contribute to the melt?
Lisa the braids sound like a good idea. Did u see Carla's post on BHM about the micro braids on a weave weft? she had pix posted. I'm considering that since i'm too lazy to sit for hours of braiding.
MSM is the truth! My growth got outta hand w/ that stuff. I was so amazed. My hair is longer now than it's ever been in all the years of my trying to grow it. I stuck with MSM even tho i was a little doubtful it would work for me until i saw my own proof lol
