It's good that you care enough to inquire BEFORE you do your friend's hair! She will be very appreciative.
Ummm....OK, I would have to ask how much grey she actually has. It sounds like 'very grey' means like, more than 50%? If that's the case, then the neutral is just where you want to be to cover that grey. Now, her level 2 or 3 hair IS going to come up warm. Maybe you could mix the light brown with an ash (1/4 oz.) and that would negate some of the warmth. It might be really pretty though, with the grey turning light brown and the little bit of brunette hair she has remaining turning a copper/golden brown! perhaps a strand test is in order! If she doesn't want to see ANY warmth though, then I would say you would have to prelighten.
Love clip-ins and tape!

listen, thanks for the advice....i am not into messing up someone's hair, if you know what i mean.....a good way to lose friends...ha.....she is doing a small strand test.....i think that is a nessisity....keeps one from screwing up all their hair....will let you know how the strand test turned out....she is a warm based woman....so the warmth should look good on her. thank you for some solutions should the strand test turn out badly....much appriciation.

Oh, fanatastic! I'm so happy to hear that. And you are right: test strands are the way to go! I'll have to keep that L'Oreal Pre-Color Primer in mind for the future -- sounds like some type of protein filler/porosity equalizer.
I have been through MANY different colours in my own hair history. I began to seriously study/research hair color on my own about five years ago. Amazing what you can learn out there! I gradually went from high lift blonding and highlighting with bleach to (currently) bleaching my top area and lifting the underneath to a light brown (My level is 2). The only person's hair I have ever done other than my own is my Mom's. I am too afraid to do anyone else's hair for fear I would mess it up and they would hate me forever!!! I have had several requests. Also, although I think I know a lot about hair colour and health, and don't want to fool myself into false security! It is tricky ---- my hair lightens pretty easily although it is dark. Another's head may not be as easy.
But, good for you that you take the chance --- it worked out!!!!
