QuoteReplyTopic: Dandruff Control Shampoo on Dyed Blond Hair... Posted: July 10 2008 at 1:32pm
Hi everybody! I've been lurking for quite some time now and decided to join in on the fun. I have a question. I dyed my hair, about 4-5 weeks ago, from natural medium brown to a darker blond color with lots of blond highlights (base color is kind of a darkish butternut color and the highlights range from darker platinum to darker honey colors...looks fantastic...i love it!!). My hair is extremely healthy and strong. It grows very quickly (i already have visible root growth). However, prior to coloring my hair, I used Head -N-Shoulders religiously. It kept my hair very healthy and manageable and held my dandruff at bay. Since I dyed my hair I haven't been using Head-N-Shoulders. So now, approximately five weeks post dye, my dandruff is returning. It's driving me nuts!!! It itches and is flaky (which is less noticeable with the lighter color hair, but annoying none the less). I read somewhere that using a dandruff shampoo of the nature of Head-N-Shoulders can strip color out of dyed hair. As I love my hair color, it would really tick me off to use that shampoo and screw up my hair.
Any suggestions?
Liz

You are right, head & shoulders, does strip the colour. However they have a new brand out specifically for coloured hair, I'm sure they will sell it in the states. Its Head & Shoulders, colour care. Have a look around for it.
Thanks for the replies everybody. I figured out what the problem(s) were. I only wash my hair every two to three days, and, as I live in Hawaii and the weather has gotten hot, I've been sweating a lot lately. So, I decided I needed to wash my hair every other day and that every other wash I would use my professional (purple) anti-brass shampoo.
It helps to neutralize that yucky stuff on my scalp and fights the nasty brassies.
Washing every other day is definitely better than every 3 days for those with a dandruff problem. Diluting your shampoo, whichever shampoo you use, also can help surprisingly well (as long as your dandruff is not caused by yeast or another medical condition). Some dandruff is caused by shampoo being too concentrated and overdrying the scalp, and diluting the shampoo with water prevents this from happening. (You may also find that your scalp behaves much better in other ways - doesn't get as greasy as soon because it wasn't overstripped by concentrated shampoo.)
