I'm planning on having my extensions installed in about two weeks. My mom is going to do them for me. I need some information about how to cut them. She is very capable of in installing them and cutting hair as well but is nervous about cutting extensions. Is there anything special we need to know? I read the post about Kalika (I think that was her name) who pre-layered her extensions. I was thinking about getting a pair of thinning shears and slightly trim the ends of the extensions. I am thinking this would give it a nice layered look as the strands are installed up my head. My big concern is how to blend my natural hair into the extensions. Right now my hair is just down to the bottom of my skull, just past my ears, all one length mostly. I'm hoping to find a way to layer in the extensions so it all blends in together. Does anyone know of any videos or websites or other posts on here that will help me with this? Or more precisely, help my mom since she will be doing the cutting!!

Cutting in extensions is down to personal preference, no right or wrong method.
I prefer to cut once installed... I dampen the hair then layer in slightly the extensions from the client own hair. Then at the front of the head either side, layer more heavily to created feathering around the face.

i thin its will look better to cut them when they are installed...i don't think it would be too successful if you cut them before u put them on...

I have a copy of Sherries layering. I don't think she will mind if I post it. Wait, maybe I better ask her first.
I'll be back.............................................................

That is cool hair! It reminds of a very glamourous country and western singer hairdo!

its an old install picture krimsa! LOL. But my installs dont really look much different now. Just longer layers.

here is the link to the post that has that picture. There are alot more pictures, and more of an explanation of how I cut the layers.

I still use nearly the same technique now, just not as many layers anymore. But same basic technique.
